Pepperdine Gets Another Commitment:
Texas' Terrence Johnson----(May 5, 2000)
Pepperdine has signed one of the best classes in the West Coast Conference this year, and maybe one of the top classes overall on the entire west coast. Just a few days ago the Waves got a signed LOI from former Venice HS player Glenn McGowan (6'-8" Postgrad. SG/SF/PF) who attended Notre Dame Academy (a prep school) this past year, and now we hear that they've picked up a verbal commitment (and will soon have an LOI in hand) from Terrence Johnson (6'-5" Sr. SG/SF) from Duncanville, Texas.
Johnson is perhaps one of the best pure athletes in the country, a phenomenal dunker who can do Vince-Carter-like jams, putting his whole arm through the rim, and he's incredibly quick and skilled, and was, strangely, passed over by a lot of big "power" programs who really didn't know about him, perhaps because Terrence was a high school teammate of Brian Boddicker who garnered most of the spotlight. Johnson helped lead Duncanville to the State 5A championship last season and this year they were runners-up, with Terrence averaging about 15 ppg, 7 rebounds per game and he was the second leading scorer and rebounder on the team behind Boddicker.
With the commitment (and eventual LOI) from Terrence Johnson, Pepperdine's recruiting for next year's team will be completed, and they will have 6 signees, really a complete team all by themselves: At the 5, Van Breda Kolf will have Will Kimble; at the 4 spot he'll have Glenn McGowan and Robert Turner, at the wings Michael Hall and Terrence Johnson and at the point Micah McKinney. Now that's a pretty good freshman class. . . .
