Youth Summer Camps: Simi Valley
Basketball Camp--(May 17, 2000)

We've got many summer camp listings in our "Camps" links section, but one that we haven't updated (at least not since Dean Bradshaw resigned last season and Christian Aurand was appointed as the new head coach) is the Simi Valley Basketball Camp, which once again will be held at Simi Valley High School for two weeks this summer.  Please note: This camp is not officially affiliated with Simi Valley High School, but it is held on the school campus; it's run under the auspices of the Rancho Simi Recreation & Park District, and will feature the Simi Valley High School coaching staff and other instructors and guest speakers.  The camp will held from June 26–June 30and July 10– July 14, 2000.

The Basketball Camp follows in the tradition of previous Simi Valley HS coaches Bob Hawking and Dean Bradshaw, and those familiar with their camps should be familiar with what is planned for this year. The Camp is open to players in grades 3-8.  It will run from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. daily.   This is a development and fundamentals camp, and it will help younger players learn the game and improve their skills, including  shooting, passing, rebounding, ball handling, defense, footwork, and team play.  Parents are invited to attend camp each day and are welcome to come to each week's award ceremonies, which will also feature a variety of competitions, which allow campers to showcase their skills involving shooting, dribbling, and the always popular One-on-One Contest for all ages. The camp focues on individual Instruction, features an outstanding teaching staff, has many guest speakers, skills evaluations, instructional and motivational films and competitions, and early workouts with the staff each morning at 8:30 a.m. Campers get t-shirts and swimming passes to utilize the pool on campus.

Past and future speakers have and will include Steve Lavin (UCLA), Toby Bailey (Phoenix Suns), Lorenzo Romar (St. Louis University), Don MacLean (Phoenix Suns), Bob Hawking (former head coach, Cal State Fullerton, and Simi Valley), Marty Wilson  (UCSB), Bob Williams  (head coach, UCSB, former Division II NCAA Champion, UC Davis), and Dave Hopla (NBA Shot Doctor) among others.

Fees for the camp run as follows: 1 Week $ 80.00, 2 Weeks $ 150.00.  For More Information Please Call (805) 584-4400. Registration can be done at the Rancho Simi Parks and Recreation District or at the Rancho Simi Recreation Center.
