Derrick Craven Errick Craven COLLEGE SPORTS: Two promising athletes to attend USC
By Scott Wolf, Staff WriterTwin brother basketball players Errick and Derrick Craven of Bishop Montgomery High in Torrance have decided to attend USC. "It's close to home and my family will get to see me play," Derrick Craven said. "I wanted to stay in California. We wanted to be able to come home on the weekends."
Errick (6-foot-2, 170) is considered one of the top guards in the West. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.6 steals as the twins led Bishop Montgomery to the Division III state title last spring. Derrick (6-2, 170) averaged 17.1 points, 5.8 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals.
Derrick Craven said the twins expected to officially inform USC coaches on Thursday night of their decision. Other schools that recruited the twins were UCLA, Stanford and California. Some colleges balked at taking both brothers, who insisted on attending the same school. They are projected as combo guards in college, capable of playing either the point or shooting guard position.
