Rising Stars & SCA Youth Teams Play
In Mexican Tourney Sat. & Sun.--(June 8, 2000)

Our friend Ollie Goulston who coaches and runs the Rising Stars program down in San Diego, which sponsored the "Super 60" exposure league for high school players this past spring (modeled after the Rockfish Spring League) also coaches and sponsors several younger teams as well for players in various age brackets, including an 11-U group.  Ollie wrote to us yesterday to let us know about the Rising Stars' and South Coast All Stars' planned tournament trip this weekend in Mexico for the Binacional Infantil 2000" Tournament.  Here's the story:

The City of Tijuana, Mexico has invited the Rising Stars and South Coast Stars 11 & unders to participate in the first ever "BINACIONAL INFANTIL 2000". Normally, they run a binational tournament for 2 high school teams in San Diego and 2 from Tijuana. They ran that this year again in March, but wanted to add a youth portion this year. So they have invited our two teams as well as 2 12 & under Mexican teams to play this weekend.

The South Coast Stars and Rising Stars are two of the best 11 & unders in California. South Coast has won the AAU state championship in L.A. as well as the BCI Western regional championship in San Diego. They have beaten every top team in California at least once. The Rising Stars won the BCI California state championship and finished 3rd behind South Coast & Arizona Stars in the BCI Western Regionals. The last time these two teams played, South Coast won in overtime. So it should be an exciting event in Mexico. They will play international rules and both teams will stay overnight.

Saturday, June 10

12:00 pm	Talentos Tijuana vs. Rising Stars
1:00 pm	Instituto Mexico vs. South Coast Stars
3:00 pm	Talentos Tijuana vs. Instituto Mexico
4:00 pm	Rising Stars vs. South Coast Stars
6:00 pm	Talentos Tijuana vs. South Coast Stars
7:00 pm	Rising Stars vs. Instituto Mexico

Sunday, June 11

10:00 am	3-Point Shooting Contest
11:00 am	Slam Dunk Contest
(That's right, the basket will be lowered)
12:00 pm	3rd Place Game
1:30 pm	Championship

All games will be held at the AUDITORIO MUNICIPAL "FAUSTO GUTIERREZ MORENO". This is the premier basketball venue in Tijuana. It is an arena that seats approximately 5,000 people. It is the home of all the pro boxing and basketball games held in Tijuana. The team rosters are as follows:

The Rising Stars are coached by Ollie Goulston and Curtis McGlown; South Coast is coached by Scott McClain. This event should be a great experience for the kids.  We take teams down to Mexico every year, and have enjoyed some tremendous experiences. We'll keep you informed about the results.
