We just received the first "semi-official" announcement about this great event, and we've gotten several calls from the organizers so we figured it was about time to start putting the word out about this year's 3rd Annual South Orange County Roundball Extravaganza.

This one looks like it's going to be bigger and better than either of the previous versions.  This year's Roundball will feature 6 games, starting with a 9th grade AAU All-Stars game at 2:15 p.m., a Girls' Underclass AAU All-Star Game at 3:30 p.m., two Underclass Boys' AAU All-Star games at 4:45 and 6:00 p.m., followed by a top rising seniors Girls' AAU All-Star game at 7:15 p.m. and a  top rising seniors Boys' AAU All-Star game at 8:00 p.m.  In between will be a 3 point shooting contest and a slam dunk contest.

Last year's event featured some of the most promising and talented basketball players from all over SoCal, including some of the "big name" guys like Tyson Chandler, Jamal Sampson, Cedric Bozeman, Josh Childress, and many others, and this year the list is even more impressive, 120 top players in all.   We've posted the official lists of participants in each game, and if you want to check them out, you can find them at these links:  Afternoon rosters, and Evening Rosters.

Frank Burlison, who recently left the OC Register to join Fox Sports, assisted with the selection process for the games, and it's an impressive list of talent. In addition to all of the games and other festivities, the Roundball Extravaganza will also honore Frank with a Lifetime Achievement Award between the two main games for all that he's done for high school basketball over the years.

The first year's Roundball Extravaganza was held at Capistrano Valley HS and was attended by more than 1,300 people; last year, the Roundball Extravaganza was held at Laguna Hills HS and drew more than 2,500.  This year's event has been moved to Santa Margarita HS, and the event organizers anticipate even larger attendance.

Tickest for the event will be $10 for Adults, $6 for students, and $3 for children age 12 and under.  For additional information abou the event, call 949-206-2441.

And just so no one complains that we've left them out, the event's main sponsors this year are the Orange County Register, Chick's Sporting Goods and Plyo-City Youth Development, along with participation from others such as XTRA Sports AM 690, WorldNet Computers, Branch West Basketball Academy, Rite Price Pharmacy, Sterling National Bank, Standard Pacific Homes, USA Trophy, and Orange National Bank.

We'll have much more on this event as it gets closer.

See you there.
