The 3rd Annual South Orange County Roundball
Extravaganza will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 24, 2000, and it will feature 6
games in all, including one of the best lineups of the top talent in SoCal from among the
incoming freshmen, to top developing class of 2003 rising sophs, the class of 2002 rising
juniors), and the best and brightest from the class of 2001, the rising seniors, many of
whom by this time next year will have signed with some of the top D-I programs, and
there's at least one legitimate NBA prospect, in Compton Dominguez' Tyson Chandler (who
was, surprisingly, a no show at the USA Basketball's 2000 Youth Development Festival this
past week).
While the event takes place in "South
Orange County," it still will be a showcase for more than just Orange County,
featuring top players from all over Southern California who will be playing in the
six games to be held at Santa Margarita HS. Last
year's event featured some of the most promising and talented basketball players from all
over SoCal, including some of the "big name" guys like Tyson Chandler, Jamal
Sampson, Cedric Bozeman, Josh Childress, and many others, and this year the list is even
more impressive, with 120 top players in all, including many of the guys from last year's
games and many new faces.
Here are the rosters for the Boys' Games, starting in
reverse order, with the 8:00 p.m. Game # 6, the top game of the day:

There will be at least one or two no-shows off this list
that we know about, including Harrison Schaen, who is in St. Louis for the Nike Hoops
Jamboree, a sort of frosh-soph All-American camp, and we're pretty sure that Darius
Sanders and Mike Strawberry who are listed in the next game are also in St. Louis too, but
Mike Rangel tells us that there have been a few surprise additions to the roster for the
4:00 p.m. rising juniors game:

In between the afternoon and evening games will be a three
point shooting contest, and a slam dunk contest, as well as several awards to be given to
several people including one which will be received by Frank Burlison, who recently left
the OC Register to join Fox Sports, and who assisted with the selection process for the
games. The Roundball Extravaganza will honor Frank with a Lifetime Achievement Award
for all that he's done for high school basketball over the years.
Tickets for the event will be $10 for Adults, $6 for
students, and $3 for children age 12 and under. For additional information abou the
event, call 949-206-2441.
And just so no one complains that we've left them out, here
are the event's main sponsors:
See you there.
