adidas ABCD Invitational
Camp Starts Today--(July 5, 2000)
What: |
adidas ABCD Camp |
Where: |
Fairleigh-Dickinson University |
|
Teaneck, New Jersey |
When: |
July 5-10, 2000 |
Who: |
Approx 160 top players |
While the local and regional camps get started this weekend, there will be two big events already underway, specifically the two top invitation-only elite-level camps, Nike All American Camp at Indiana University at Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI), and the adidas ABCD Camp which takes place at Fairleight Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. Both camps will start the gathering of the stars today, July 5, and most, if not all of the approximately 320 Division I college programs will be attending both camps starting Saturday, July 8, which is the first day coaches can be out on the road evaluating (during the July evaluation period, colleges can have three coach out on the road, and most will have one at Nike, one at ABCD, and the other at a regional or local camp).
We managed to get a pretty good idea of who will be attending ABCD from every region in the country, and because this is SoCalHoops, we'll list the Southern California invited players first. Please also understand that there have been some last minute additions and deletions from the early invitiation lists, and the camp, which originally was slated to have about 220 players is now down to only about 150-160 of the top players in the country. Many consider the crown jewel of participants this year to be Eddy Curry from Illinois, whom many are tabbing as the best player in this year's class and the most likely to be a lottery pick in next year's draft if he skips college. . . of course Tyson Chandler is right there with Eddy, but he's at Nike Camp, and that's a whole different article. . . . .
And rather than limiting it to just SoCal, here are all of the California players (both NorCal and SoCal) scheduled to be at ABCD:

Not on this year's list of attendees are the four former Artesia guys, Jon Steffanson, Jack Martinez, Amaury Fernandez or Franklin Matos, all of whom are not outside the US, and while there has been talk of some returning to the US to play, we don't think that's likely next year, possibly not ever, given their muddled immigration status.
Among other top national players at the camp, are:

and just a ton of other guys, too numerous to mention. . .
Obviously, we won't be there because we'll be covering Pump No. 1, but we'll still have some reports from the camp from some of our friends who will be there, giving us their observations about who is playing well and who is really impressing the college coaches. More news from the camp shortly.
