Nike 14th Annual Fairfax-Goodman
Summer Classic Starts Today--(July 20, 2000)

Who said anything about an "off-season?"  Three tournaments will be going on simultaneously starting today around the Los Angeles area, and while the adidas Double Pump Best of Summer is the biggest (128 teams), the Slam N Jam NIT is the oldest and most well-established (20+ years), the Annual Fairfax-Goodman Summer Classic is now in its 14th incarnation and even if it's not the oldest or the biggest, it still attracts a lot of talent and a lot of college coaches come out to check out the games.    And the nice thing about these games as opposed to some of the all-star stuff is that these are high school teams playing together as high school teams, and thus you might actually see some semblance of team offense and defense being played.   There will undoubtedly be a few guys missing from the rosters who are out of town or with other teams,  but you can still expect to see some great players and teams. We're not sure if Cedric Bozeman or Jamal Sampson of Mater Dei, Josh Childress of Mayfair, and Isaiah Fox of Crossroads will be back from the Peach Jam  or whether they are headed straight for Florida to the Nike Super Showcase, but there will still be a lot of talent in the gym.
