Last year we didn't get around to posting the schedules until the camp was already half over, but this year, we're getting a real jump on things. Yesterday, we had the Daily Schedule for July 7, posted up a day ahead, and today, we've got the Saturday, July 8 Schedule posted about 8 hours before anything will happen on Saturday at the camp. . . we're doing pretty well, if we do say so. . . .
Here's the Saturday Schedule:
Players generally will be up and out of their rooms well ahead of the 7:30 a.m. breakfast, and a few brave souls may venture out to the gym where they can work out starting at 6:30 a.m. . . Not many, but a few. . . .And Dave Hopla, who spoke last night, promised that he'll be there to work with anyone who wants to work with him one on one. . . .and knowing Dave, that's a scary proposition. . . .just kidding Hopla.
The rest of the schedule looks like this:
7:30 -- 8:55 a.m. Breakfast
9:00 -- 9:10 a.m. Roll Call in the Gym for All Teams
9:10 -- 9:30 a.m. Stretching and Warm-Up: Aubrey McCreary, Phil Bryant and staff
9:30-- 11:30 a.m. SPLIT
GROUPS
1)
Dave Hopla Shooting Drills
2)
Jeff Scott, NCAA Enforcement: Initial Eligibility, Recruiting, Letters of Intent and NAIA
presentation by Ken Ammann and Ethan Hamilton (Azusa Pacific University)
The camp will be split into two groups. One will remain with Dave Hopla for shooting drills while the other will go to the NCAA/NAIA seminar on recruiting. Halfway throgh the session the groups will switch locations.
11:30 a.m. Announcements: All Teams Meet in the Gym
11:45 --1:00 p.m. Lunch
1:05 p.m. Roll Call For All Teams in the Gym
1:15 p.m. Games:
Time | Court I | Court 2 | Court 3 | Court 4 |
1:15-2:05 | Minnesota--N. Carolina | Indiana--Kansas | Nebraska--Utah | Montana--Tennessee |
2:05-2:55 | Washinton--Wyoming | Texas--Arizona | Ohio--Virginia | Maryland--Georgia |
2:55-3:45 | Michigan--N. Mexico | Iowa--Utah | Arkansas--Oregon | Nevada--Missouri |
3:45--4:25 | Illinois -- New York | Oklahoma--Idaho | Alabama--Florida | Connecticut--California |
Following these games, players will get together again in the gym at about 4:30 p.m. and then head off to dinner from about 4:45 to 6:30 p.m. . At 6:35 p.m. the teams will meet up again in the gym, and then Dick Kuchen, former Yale head coach, will talk about recruiting and will pitch the internet as a tool for recruiting (gee that's news to us) and in the process will make a sorta, kinda sales pitch for his own "Level Edge" recruiting service, which coincidentally has a website at www.leveledge.com . According to the schedule in the coaches' packets, Kuchen will speak about "How to get the best visibility and exposure around the country for student/athletes." Should be interesting.
At 6:35 p.m. the evening games will start and they will run through until the last ones conclude at about 10:30 p.m. on the following schedule:
Time | Court I | Court 2 | Court 3 | Court 4 |
6:35-7:25 | Washington--N.Carolina | Minnesota--Nebraska | Tennessee--New York | Wyoming--Texas |
7:25--8:15 | Indiana--Montana | Kansas--Illinois | Georgia--Ohio | Virginia--N. Mexico |
8:15--9:05 | Michigan--Florida | Iowa--Connecticut | Maryland--California | Nevada--Arkansas |
9:05-9:45 | Oklahoma--Alabama | Idaho--Oregon | Missouri--Utah | Arizona-- Kansas |
More schedules, some brief reports and even some photos will follow tomorrow morning, but for now we've got to get some sleep. . . later.
