Bob Hawking Takes Anaheim High
Head Coaching Job--(Aug. 31, 2000)
The Orange County Register and the LA Times both reported this morning that Bob Hawking, who resigned as men's basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton in February, was hired yesterday (Wednesday) as the new boys' head basketball coach at Anaheim HS. Hawking coached the Titans for six seasons, and prior to that, was the head coach at Simi Valley . According to the Register, "Anaheim athletic director Dave Torres said he became wide-eyed when he first saw Hawking's application. 'I was very surprised,' he said, 'and very excited. He gives us instant credibility.'"
Hawking will be a full-time faculty member at Anaheim. In addition to coaching, he will teach four PE classes and will also be Anaheim's PE Department Chairman. He replaces Marco Castellanos as the Colonists boys basketball coach. Castellanos resigned during the summer. Anaheim was 14-12 last season. The Colonists finished fourth in the six-team Orange League with a 4-6 league record.
