San Diegans Sign Late: Mayfield To
CSUB & Hooks To CSUH--(August 22, 2000)
We just received word from Ollie Goulston, who runs the San Diego Rising Stars program and the "Super 60" league (a Rockfish-style league down near the border) that two of last year's better graduated seniors who went unsigned throughout the summer have now signed late with colleges.
San Diego CIF Section D-I Player of the Year, Donyare Mayfield (5'-9" PG) from Vista High School has signed a scholarship agreement with Cal Stat Bakersfield, one of the best D-2 programs in the country. Donyare will be a great fit for the Roadrunners, who graduate 4 players (including All-American swingman Ron Selleaze) and who will return Vernon Jackson and Sherwyn Morgan at the guard spots. Donyare is a very quick, compact and tough point with excellent speed and the ability to penetrate.
And, San Diego CIf Section Division IV Player of the Year, Fred Hooks (6'-5" SG/SF) from Horizon Christian School has signed a scholarship agreement with Humboldt State where he will be joined by Brea Olinda's Ryan Wilber (6'-5" SG/SF). We don't know much else about the Lumberjacks for this upcoming season except that they open with Cal Maritime Academy on November 18.
