High School Team Preview: Martin Luther
King, Jr., Senior HS--(Oct. 30, 2000)

MLK is a brand new school in the Inland Empire, and this year they will be the first season, which they'll play in the Sunkist League.   MLK is coached by Timothy Sweeney, Jr., who for several years was an assistant at Artesia, coaching such players as Jason Kapono, now at UCLA (in case you've been living on the moon for the last couple of years and didn't know that).    Tim is very excited about his team this year, and rather than have us try to embellish, we'll just let him tell you:

Leon Rosborough   6'-5"Jr. F
Juwon Arabage   6'-0"Jr. G

Team Notes: This is our first varsity season at the new school. This is a  young team with some very talented players. Marvin Lea is with out doubt one of the best guards in the inland empire and CIF. Leon Rosborough, a transfer from Canyon Springs,  is a 6'5" combo player who can really shoot the ball. Danny Doss is a 6'5" 230lb center who I believe will also develop into a top player this year. And a great addition is Juwon Arabage, a transfer from Morningside. Juwon is a super quick athlete who brings some depth and stability to this young team. However, I believe the biggest suprise will Matthew Thomas. He is a 6'4" point guard who might be one of the best freshman guards in the State. And I do mean the State. At the Inland Empire So./Fr showcase game he had 10 assists, 10 rebounds, 5 steals, and at least 20 points. I have not coached an athlete with this kind of talent so young since Jason Kapono.  But then I guess he won't be a suprise for much longer. We are in the Sunkist league and should make a run for the league title. As things look  right now, our CIF division should be D-IVAA, but we will have to wait for the official CBED enrollment figures to come out before our division classification is determined. We are definitely a team who many would consider a "sleeper" but I don't think we'll be thought of that way for long.
