Adam Allegro Commits To Navy--(Oct. 30, 2000)
Adam Allegro (6'-6" Sr. PF) from Agoura HS, who has played the past few years for George Albanez' 805 Basketball travel team with Santa Barbara's Dommanic Ingerson (Michigan commit & intended signee) and Trey Putnam (currently deciding between Air Force and Cal State Fullerton), has given a verbal commitment to Navy Head Coach Don DeVoe. Allegro apparently was so pleased with the visit he took a few weeks ago, he was tempted to commit on the spot. While on the visit, he and his parents bought some "Navy" apparel (t-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, etc), at the student store, and at the time, his father told Adam to be careful about taking the tags off the clothing. "If you're not going to attend here, you might want to return the clothing," Kirk Allegro reportedly told Adam and his mom, Michelle. We understand that in tomorrow's mail, Coach DeVoe will be receiving an envelope full of clothing tags, a sure sign that Adam and his family have decided to keep the purchases, at least for the next four years.
Adam is a solid small forward type with a good shot out to about 15', and good defensive ability. Adam was down to Army and Navy within the last few weeks, having earlier eliminated from consideration a number of other schools who were recruiting him, including Colgate, Lehigh, UC Davis, Dartmouth, Cal Poly, and Cal State Dominguez. He will join a roster which currently has 17 players on it, including one from California, West Hills Chaminade's Scott Long (6'-6" So. SG/SF) who will be a junior by the time Allegro is a senior. Adam was also a member of several Los Angeles Maccabi Basketball teams, one which won a gold medal in Seattle, and another which played in Detroit two years ago.
