San Diego's Floyd North
Commits to Oregon State--(Oct. 19, 2000)
We just received a press release from our friend Ollie Goulston, who coaches the Rising Stars program in San Diego, and who also runs the Super 60 League, a spring exposure league in the San Diego area. Ollie is also a friend and coach to Floyd North (6'-5" Sr. SG) from San Diego St. Augustine, and he wanted us to know that tonight, Floyd gave a commitment to Oregon State. Floyd will be an immediate impact player for the Beavers, and will be a quality addition to Ritchie McKay's program. Here's the full text of the press release:
Floyd North III, a senior at St. Augustine High School (San Diego, California) has accepted a basketball scholarship to attend Oregon State University next year.
North, a 6-05 guard, was a San Diego Union-Tribune 1st Team All-County selection last year as well as a member of the Division 3 All-State team. He is a 3 year varsity starter and 2-time All-Western League selection. This past summer, North was a member of the West squad at the United States Basketball Festival, and attended the National Basketball Players Association Camp, where he was ranked among the top 15 players and won the Slam Dunk contest. Additionally, North was selected the Most Valuable Player at the 2000 Rim Rattler All-Star Game in Los Angeles this past July.
"I have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to accept a basketball scholarship to Oregon State University. On my official visit to Oregon State, I was impressed by the camraderie of the players and the coaching staff. I felt warmly welcomed by the community in Corvallis and the student body of OSU. I am anxious to begin my career as a Beaver under Coach McKay and look forward to receiving a degree from such a great institution as Oregon State University!" Said North today.
North carries a 3.0 overall G.P.A. and is fully qualified. North is also considered a Major League Baseball prospect as a centerfielder and pitcher. He will sign a National Letter of Intent to attend Oregon State University on November 8, 2000.
