Travon Bryant: In Maine, And
Still
Committed To Missouri--(Oct. 25, 2000)
All the legal work we've been doing actually does have one side benefit: When you spend a lot of time in the downtown LA County Courthouse you never know who you're going to run into. One day it's some hot movie star, the next day it's a famous sports figure. Sometimes it's a sports figure's mom. . . On Monday, we were on our way to a hearing when we bumped into someone we haven't seen in a while, and it happened to be the mother of McDonald's All American Travon Bryant (6'-9" PF) who signed with the University of Missouri after graduating from Long Beach Jordan HS last year. As it happens, Travon's mother was serving on jury duty in a case a few doors down the hall from where we were appearing.
After exchanging the usual pleasantries she told us that Travon is currently enrolled at MCI Prep in Maine, and is still looking forward to enrolling at Missouri for the winter semester. "It all depends on how he does on the SAT," Travon's mom told us. "We're all keeping our fingers crossed right now. But I think he'll pass the test and then he can enroll next semester, and from what the coaches tell him, he can be eligible to play immediately. Travon thinks he'll pass the test. He's really happy at MCI, and can't wait to get to Missouri."
Mrs. Bryant also let us know about her older son, D'Cean, who was a standout player for Long Beach State the last four years (he enrolled as a Prop.48 as a freshman, but earned the right to play his 5th year by completing his degree in four semesters). "D'Cean is right now trying to decide where he's going to play. It might be in the new ABA and he's also considering some offers from overseas and possibly the CBA."
