Some Youth Travel Team & League
Sign-Up Info--(Oct. 29, 2000)

It's been a while since we've posted anything up for the younger guys, but sometimes we just come across this stuff in the newspapers (in this case the LA Times), and this is one of those instances.  We will not vouch for the quality of any of these programs, nor the coaches, nor the parents, nor the players. We are simply providing this info as a service to those of you with children who may be interested in having them try out or participate in youth leagues and travel teams.  Caveat emptor.   But by all means, if you are interested, check these three out:

Rancho Cucamonga is offering a winter youth basketball program for children born from 1984 to 1993.  Registration is offered at the Rancho Cucamonga Civic Center, 10500 Civic Center Drive, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Nov. 4 or all spaces are filled. The cost is $46 per player in the "D" Division and $60 for players in all other divisions (Whatever the "D" Division is. . . ). There is an additional $5 charge for non-residents (i.e., we take it this means folks who don't live in Rancho Cucamonga, not resident aliens. . . no passports or green cards, please). Games are played on Saturdays beginning Jan. 6. The registration fee includes jersey and shorts.  For information: 909-477-2765

The Southern California All-Stars, sponsored by Nike (we're not positive, but this is probably the Pat Barrett-run group), are holding tryouts for grades 4-8. Call for tryout times.  For information: 909-427-9990

The Chino Valley AAU team is seeking players, ages 12-14, with "exceptional basketball skills" for its club squad. Personal training is available. For information: 909-590-8453

Again, caveat emptor.
