Gonzaga Signs Villepigue &

Gonzaga finally issued a press release (dated November 14, even though it wasn't actually posted until the 15th) confirming that Coach Mark Few has signed Dustin Villepigue (6'-9" Sr. PF) of Simi Valley and Josh Riesman (6'-0" Sr. PG) from Mt. Vernon HS in Washington (as in the State of Washington), and a JUCO point guard, Winston Brooks. Dustin played early on with the Rockfish and then played the past two summers with two different Double Pump teams, the Pump N Run All Stars (with Salim Stoudamire, and the Double Pump All Stars

Men's Basketball Signs Three Players
Two high schoolers, one JC transfer ink letters-of-intent

Gonzaga University head men's basketball coach Mark Few has announced the signing of three players to letters-of-intent during the early signing period.

Josh Reisman, a 6-0 point guard from Mt. Vernon (Wash.) High School; Dustin Villepigue, a 6-9 power forward from Simi Valley (Calif.) High School, and Winston Brooks, a 6-0 point guard from nearby North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene will attend Gonzaga next fall.

Reisman made a verbal commitment to the Bulldogs in July. Mt. Vernon finished second in last spring's Washington State Class 3A Tournament, Reisman averaging 10.0 ppg, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Vanderbilt University, USC and Oregon State University also recruited him.

"Josh is from a very successful high school program coached by Mac Fraser," Few said. "They are usually near the top, if not at the top, of the big schools in Washington. Josh is very athletic and has a good up side. He plays both guard spots, and shoots the ball well as a point guard. I would compare him to (current Gonzaga point guard) Dan Dickau. With more development and more time at that spot he should be a real good player down the road."

Villepigue will join the Bulldogs as one of the top-rated power forwards on the West Coast by Pacwesthoops. He averaged 12.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg as a junior. Coached by Christian Aurand, Villepigue helped lead Simi Valley to the semifinals of the southern section of the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs last March. He chose the Bulldogs over St. Louis University, the University of Nebraska, Kansas State University, Santa Clara University and Princeton University.

"Dustin is a banger who is skilled, and we like his feel for the game," Few said. "He'll be that typical forward we've had in the past who understands how to play and is able to shoot it out to even the 3-point line."

Brooks played his freshman season at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, averaging 5.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 1.5 steals. He transferred to NIC this past summer when Doug Thibault joined NIC head coach Hugh Watson's staff from Howard.

"Winston is already a good player. He's a pure, pure point guard, a great leader and a great athlete. He really understands the position, is a team player, a disruptive defender and somebody who will jell in our up-tempo system," Few said.
