Nevada Reno Signs
Kirk Snyder To NLI--(Nov. 10, 2000)

More Signing News:  Jeff Klein, head boys basketball coach at Upland sent us an e-mail today reminding us that one of his players, Kirk Snyder (6'-5" Sr. F), has signed his National Letter of Intent with Nevada Reno.  The letter was actually received by Wolfpack head coach Trent Johnson on November 8, the first day of the fall signing period, and it's obvious that we're a couple of days late, but better late than never.    This past spring and summer Kirk played mostly with his Upland team, dba "Belmont Shore East" and he's a strong, tough player.   We don't know if we'd go as far as our friend Joel Francisco did when describing him as the "17th best player in California", simply because that seems like an entirely subjective kind of thing to say. . . but there's no doubt that Kirk is a tremendously talented and athletic player who has the potential to be a big time college player.

Oh, and by the way, for those who quickly forget, Nevada also has another of our favorite players on the roster, Andre Hazel (5'-11" Sr. PG) from Artesia, who in his first college appearance in Nevada's first exhibition game on November 3, scored five points and dished out five assists for the Wolfpack.

Here's the official press release about Kirk's signing:

Wolf Pack signs 6-5 Forward

Nov. 8, 2000

RENO, Nev - Kirk Snyder, a 6-5, 185-pound small forward from Upland High School in Upland, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Nevada beginning with the 2001-2002 season, it was announced Wednesday by head coach Trent Johnson.

Snyder, who played for head coach Jeff Klein at Upland, averaged 16.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game last year as a junior. Snyder also shot 53 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line.

He also scored 26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the CIF I-AA quarterfinals, snapping Eishenhower High School's 27-game winning streak. Snyder earned first team CIF Division I honors and was named to the Baseline all-league team.

"Kirk is very talented and capable of playing the two or three position for us," said Johnson. "We are excited about him joining the Wolf Pack program. With the graduation of Richard Stirgus and Joao Santos at the end of the year, we felt it was extremely important to sign one of the premier high school small forwards."

Snyder is rated as the fifth-best small forward on the west coast by Pac-West Hoops, third-best combo forward in California by Fullcourt Recruiting Service and Joel Francisco's SoCal's Finest Scouting Report ranked him the 17th-best player in all of California.
