LBSU Announces Three Signings:
Davis, Bowens & Jenkins--(Nov. 11, 2000)

Last week we noted that Recruiting USA announced the commitment of Anthony Davis (6'-5' Sr. SG/SF) from Compton Centennial to Long Beach State, and we also noted their other verbals from Mark Bowens (6'-2" Sr. PG) from Arizona, a solid point guard prospect, and Chris Jenkins (6'-6" Sr. SF/SG) from Sandia HS in Albuquerque, NM, and on Thursday night, the school issued a press release announcing that all three have now signed NLI's:  Here's the announcement:

Three Players Ink Their Names To Attend Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, CA (Nov. 9) -- Long Beach State men's basketball coach Wayne Morgan announced today the signing of three players to National Letters-Of-Intent to attend LBSU next season. Signing with The Beach today were: Mark Bowens (Phoenix, AZ), Anthony Davis (Compton, CA) and Chris Jenkins (Albuquerque, NM). All three players are incoming freshmen. 

Bowens (G, 6-1, 180, Phoenix, AZ/Cactus High School) is a point guard who averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game last year as a junior. He is a three-time first team all-league and three-time first team all-region selection and has also been on the school's academic honor roll three years. As a sophomore, Bowens was selected as the Region Player of the Year and was an All-State selection.

Davis (G, 6-5, 210, Compton, CA/Centennial High School) is a shooting guard who is in his first year at Centennial HS. Davis spent the past three seasons at Cleveland High School where he averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds per game last year. Davis is considered by many as a Top 100 talent and just turned 17 in August. He was recruited by several school, but choose the 49ers over Louisville.

Jenkins (F, 6-6, 185, Albuquerque, NM/Sandia High School) is a wing player who averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game last season. Jenkins has been described by one scout as, ...could be the biggest sleeper in the country.  Last year as a junior Jenkins was named first team all-conference, all-city and all-district as well as earning honorable mention All-State honors. He was also an all-tournament pick at the Santa Fe Tournament.
