LA Times Reporting Three Transfer Students
Not Eligible At Montclair Prep--(Nov. 15, 2000)

Today's Los Angeles Times' Valley Edition reported the following in a small blurb:

"Three foreign-exchange students who transferred this year to Montclair Prep have been ruled ineligible for varsity competition by the Southern Section because they did not arrive at the Van Nuys campus through a bona fide foreign-exchange program, according to Southern Section spokesman Thom Simmons.   Marco Bozovic, a 6-foot-9 junior from Yugoslavia, Slobodon Cvijovic, a 6-4 sophomore from Yugoslavia, and Louh Blaise, a 6-11 junior from Cameroon, will be limited to playing junior varsity until next season."

Whether the school or the players will appeal to the State CIF is not clear at this point, and obviously the article did not mention that subject.   Montclair Prep had been widely anticipated to be among the favorites to challenge for a Southern Section title in Division V-AA with the addition of the  three transfer players.  Even without them,  the Mounties will be one of the better teams in the division, particularly with players like Tony McFadden (6'-5" Sr. SG), Derek Daniel (6'-6" Jr. PF), and Christian Anderle (6'-10" Jr. C) who transferred over from Culver City where he was enrolled last season (but played only sparingly).   Anderle was pretty raw at the end of last year, but has made great strides in both his skills and overall athleticism under the Mounties new first year head coach Tony Fuller.  The team also returns a full complement of guards and small forwards from last year, including Brian Trump (6'-4" Jr. SF), Charlie Kranzdorf (6'-1" Jr. G), Garen Hartunian (6'-5" Sr. F), and Eric Kaufman (5'-11" Sr. G).

Montclair Prep will once again host a tournament from December 4-9, 2000, and we hope to have the schedules and brackets posted here soon.
