2nd Annual Montclair Prep Tournament:
Complete Bracket & Schedules--(Nov. 29, 2000)

Montclair Prep will be holding their 2nd Annual "Small Schools" Tournament starting this coming Monday, December 4, and this year, while defending champion LA Price and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame will both be elsewhere, there will be some other good teams, including Agoura with Division I-signee Adam Allegro (6'-5" Sr. F),  a very athletic Pasadena Marshall team, Azusa, San Gabrial, and even a few of D-VAA's top teams, including Montclair Prep (Derek Daniel, Garen Hartunian, Tony McFadden,  Brian Trump, Charlie Kranzdorf),  Buckley (David Gale, Colin Ward-Henninger, Royal Weaver, Murali Sivalingam, Alex Clancy), Yeshiva (Abey Malkin), and some other good V-A teams.  Of course there's also a team entered which doesn't really play in any division of CIF which might just be good enough to win it all, and that's Montclair Prep's JV team, which features three player 6'-11", 6'-10" and 6'-5;  yes, these are the same three foreign students who were slated to make Montclair the odds-on favorite to compete for the Southern Section title, but whom the CIF-Southern Section declared were not eligible for varsity competition (under the rules applicable to foreign student transfers), so they will be playing JV.   Really, from what we've heard, these guys might just have enough to take the tournament. 

We have to admit, the bracket looks a little weird, and there's really no consolation bracket to speak of, which is kind of odd, and which might result in some teams playing only two games, which, given the plethora of tournaments around these days, is very odd. . . . but we don't make this stuff up, just report it, but if you look closely at the bracket, you'll see that any team which loses its first two games gets eliminated.  Odd, very odd.   Oh, well. . .
