SoCalHoops High School News

Links To Polls, Rankings &
New SoCalHoop HS Top 20--(Nov. 24, 2000)

socalogominitop20.gif (2380 bytes)A lot of people over the past several years have suggested that we put out a high school "poll". . .well, not really a poll, but we'll call it that in the same way that everyone else who does one calls it a "poll", which we think is a huge misnomer because unless balloting is submitted, it's not a poll.   Now the SCIBCA Southern Section Polls which are put out each week are "polls" (at least they're supposed to be), and in that format, members of the organization, e.g., coaches from around the region (with assistance from the media) vote each week on the top teams in each division.  And just like everything else in life, nothing is perfect, but the coaches at SCIBCA who work on the polls sure do try hard. . . but since we've been helping with info and what not for several years, we thought we'd just put our own "poll" out there.  It won't become a weekly thing until January, but for now, it's our view of the preseason, and what we think of the teams in Southern Section relative to the other teams they're likely to see, and with respect to the City, which teams are likely to make a run for the City Championships.

You'll find a new set of links, in the form of drop-down menus (above) at the top of our Daily Articles section (and we will also put a new link on the left-side navigation bar as well) where you can get access not only to SoCalHoops' own polls, but also to the national polls and rankings of players from all of the usual spots who do such ranking and polling, e.g., USA Today, ESPN, HoopsTV, The Sporting News, etc.   Two sets of drop-downs for "National" and "SoCal Regional" rankings and polls.  And just so people can't continually say we never include the girls, we've also included a drop-down menu with links to the Girls' polls and player rankings. Likewise, if you select the drop-down menu in the middle above and click on the first clickable selection at the top (which is for the SCH HS Top 20), you'll be taken to an index page where you can always find a series of additional drop-down menus which will have links to all of our own SoCalHoops Top 20 polls, broken down by section.

Access to the polls will also be presented in other ways, i.e., the usual listing within the Daily Articles, and each time we release a new poll, we'll feature it separately within the Daily Articles index, so those of you who don't like drop-downs, can still continue to just scroll down the Daily Articles page to find what you like.

Have fun this season, and remember, these "polls"  like a lot in life are subjective and they are merely an expression of opinion.  They mean nothing more, nor do they mean anything less.   They aren't important.  Really, so don't stress out if you don't see your own team ranked.   Get it done on the court.  Prove everyone wrong, including the pollsters.  Show us we're full of it.   Really.

Oh, and If you've got a different opinion, just let us know by posting it up to the message board or by sending an e-mail. And just as most things are subjective, and like a lot of other things in life,  if you think you can influence the outcome, well, you can:  We prefer small bills, nothing larger than a $50, and certainly nothing less than $500 for each team you are pulling to see us rank more highly, or for each team you wish to see drop. . . just send them to. . .    :^0)   Just kidding.

But seriously, if you think we've overlooked a team, or forgotten something or someone, remind us nicely, and also, remember, once is enough.  We can read, and telling us repeatedly about a team or a player is only guaranteed to alienate the same people you're trying to motivate.
