UCLA National Letter of Intent
Signings: Fey In, More To Follow--( Nov. 8, 2000)

Even if the Bruins didn't wind up with a commitment from Jamal Sampson (6'-11" Sr. C) from Mater Dei. . . (and those who haven't yet heard that part of the story relating to the Steve Lavin-Kevin Malone fiasco, involving a cell phone, a wrong number, an answering machine and a message strewn with ribald speech, just don't know half the story), they have managed to get commitments from a number of other top players.   Since Tracy Pierson and Greg Hicks over at Bruin Report Online (actually it's on their message forum)  seem to have the energy to be calling the players to find out whether they've actually signed their letters, so we'll just pass along the info they are reporting on their site:

Michael Fey (6'-10" Sr. C/F) from Capital HS in Olympia, Washington has reportedly faxed his NLI to the Bruin coaches.

Dijon Thompson (6'-7" Sr. G/F) from Redondo Union, hasn't faxed his letter in yet, but when Tracy called his home, Dijon's mom was in the middle of filling out the papers.  Expect the NLI tomorrow.

Andre Patterson (6'-7" Sr. SF) from Los Angeles Washington Prep HS, hasn't gotten his SAT scores, and having the score in hand (not a qualifying score, just a score, period) is reportedly a pre-requisite to signing an NLI.  Actually we had never heard that one beore, but we'll check it out to verify.   Patterson tells Pierson that he'll sign in the spring, and that he doesn't want to be recruited by other schools (and of course they've stopped recruiting him.)

And as for Cedric Bozeman (6'-5" Sr. PG/SG/SF) from Mater Dei, well, no one has heard from him or been able to reach him, and we're still going to wonder and speculate about that scholarship agreement thingee. . . at least it's interesting speculation if nothing else.
