Rim Rattler Holiday Hoops
Invitational
First & Second Day Schedules--(Dec. 11, 2000)
|
For those not making the trip out to Las Vegas this year for the Reebok Holiday Prep Classic, there's still plenty to see here in town, including especially the Rim Rattler Holiday Hoops Invitational, which just happens to take place at the same time as the Vegas event. Both tournaments run from Monday, December 18, 2000 through December 21, and both feature top teams from all over. While Vegas has been broken down into four separate tournaments, with the Millenium being the most competitive, there's no doubt that any of the teams participating in this event would give the top two teams at the Reebok (Mater Dei and Oak Hill) a tough time. . . and that's a matchup which may or may not happen. . . at least here in Long Beach, you know that there will be some outstanding games lined up.
Even though it's more than a week away, we thought it would be a good idea to post up the first round schedule as soon as we received it (which was about an hour ago. . . we also have the bracket, but since it was written in Excel format, we'll need to do a little tweaking to turn it into usable html so the rest of you will be able to see it. . . it prints out great, but just looks horrible when converted to web formatting. . .but be patient, we'll have it up shortly).
This tournament is perhaps one of the best this season, featuring 20 solid teams, with some of the top players from not only SoCal but in the country. Teams like Inglewood, Eisenhower, Compton Centennial, Mt. Zion, Pasadena, Santa Barbara, Horizon, Long Beach Poly, Fontana, Mayfair, and Long Beach Jordan make up the group from SoCal, and more than a few of these have plenty of guys who will wind up playing at the high to mid D-I level. The "national" teams include Mt. Zion, Gainesville, Springarn, St. Albans, Miami Senior, Southern Lab, Boston English, Miami Christian, Chester (PA), and Rice from New York City. All solid teams, each with one or more high profile guys.
Here's the down and dirty schedule. The bracket will follow shortly, along with some additional previews of the teams and some of the more well known players.

Beyond the second day of the tournament, there's not much point to posting up the schedule (although we'll probably do that later for those diehards who need such a listing), because the bracket is just much more visually appealing. . . at least it will be when we get done with it. :^-). In the meantime, this will have to do.
See you there.
