Upland High School Holiday
Tournament Starts Today--(Dec. 12, 2000)
|
The Upland Tournament, at where else, Upland High School gets started today, and it's one which you will want to check out, if only to see if Upland, which beat Dominguez solidly at the BCW Tournament a week and a half ago, is for real. Upland hasn't yet gained national recognition for their feat in knocking off the Dons, last year's No. 1 team in the country, but they ought to. Featuring some of the better players in this year's senior class, including Nevada-Reno signee Kirk Snyder, this is probably coach Jeff Klein's best team in years. The tournament will also feature teams such as Rancho Cucamonga, which is still trying to recover from the loss of five of it's starters from last year; Canyon Springs with Richard Cobbs and Arizona State-signee Jason Braxton, one of the quickest and most athletic senior point guards in the class of 2001; Alta Loma, LA Locke HS, Redlands East Valley, Rialto and West Covina. Looking at the list of teams, we'd have to say that the top two seeds in this one would have to be Upland and Canyon Springs. . . but what the heck do we know?
We have the schedule, but only for the first day (so we're kind of counting on Coach Klein, or someone else from Upland sending us an update. . . hint, hint. . ).
Today's games:
3:15 p.m. Rialto vs. Canyon Springs
4:45 p.m. Alta Loma vs. Locke
6:15 p.m. Upland vs. Redlands East Valley
7:45 p.m Rancho Cucamonga vs. West Covina
