There were only a few games played on Thursday.  League play for most teams has already begun, and for the rest will start Friday or early next week. If you know the score or details of a game and it's not shown send it in to us either by e-mail or by posting it on the message board.

City Section Games  Thursday 1/4/01

Fremont 96, Canoga Park 74-- Cecil Brown scored 37 points but it wasn't enough for the Hunters in a nonleague game at Fremont.  Walter Burch had 14 points and Donte Witherspoon added 12 for Canoga Park (6-8).

Southern Section League & Tournament Games  Thursday 1/4/01

Arrowhead League

La Sierra Academy 68, CSDR 41 --  La Sierra Academy outscored California School for the Deaf, Riverside 26-6 in the first quarter then held on for an Arrowhead League victory. Michael Kiemeney scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Marco Amaro scored a game-high 19 in a losing effort for CSDR. CSDR (41) -- Amaro 19, Scott 4, Alberro 4, Martinez 7, Vayarsky 7.  LA SIERRA ACADEMY (68) -- Paschal 3, Moya 10, Gomez 8, Boloico 5, Verde 10, V.Verde 4, Kiemeney 15, Bullon 11, Castro 2. Express League

Rolling Hills Prep 91, Orangewood 65--Freshman Curtis Allen scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and teammate Alex Elliot added 20 points as host Rolling Hills Prep beat Orangewood, 91-65, in the Express League opener. Rolling Hills Prep (3-3) would also see Jason Daley (12 points, eight assists), Kyle Rose (10 points) and Brett Danna (11 points) all score in double figures.

LA Hamilton Tournament

LA Banning 60, University 57-- Banning (3-5) was led by Joey Saavedra , with 24 points, and Alberto Aguirre , who had 18, in the first round at Hamilton.

Heritage League

First Lutheran 53, Grace Brethren 38-- GB:   Marme 11, Tagart 4, Durso 15, Wreesman 2, Mathieu 2, Beaty 4;  FL--John Stark 21, 12 rebounds 6 steals, Sam Hicks 10, Magalilon 6, D. Starks 7, Weibers 4, Quinn 3, Go 2.  GB--4  13  4  17--38;  First L--12  9  16   16--53.  FL  7-4, 1-0;  GB 1-8, 0-1

L.A. Lutheran 52, Faith Baptist 35--Andre Fortier had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Tony White added 16 points and five steals for the Lions (3-4) in a Heritage League opener at L.A. Lutheran.  Areg Ohanian scored 17 points for the Contenders (2-8).

Southern Section Non-League Games  Thursday 1/4/01

Ambassador Christian 67, Joshua Springs 53 -- John Palmer had 12 points in the third quarter as Fontana Ambassador Christian pulled away for a non-league victory. Palmer, who was 7-of-7 from the free-throw line, finished with a game-high 27 points. Brandon Giden added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Dawgs.  JOSHUA SPRINGS (53) -- Hagernan 17, Johnson 12, Rynning 14, Whitley 9, Gamboa 0  AMBASSADOR CHRISTIAN (67) -- Palmer 27, J. Guzman 10, E. Anaheim 68, St. Margaret's 40-- Brandon Clark and Manuel Gallardo each scored 18 pints for the Colonits and Quinn Hawking had 14 points, for Anaheim which improved to 8-8; Gallardo made four three-pointers as Anaheim led, 35-15, at halftime. Paul Janczyk had 16 points for St. Margaret's (8-7).

Arlington 62, Ramona 59 -- With :09 remaining in the fourth quarter, Shawn McAllister hit two free throws to help Riverside Arlington defeat Ramona in a non-league game. Walter Carr scored a game-high 23 points but failed to hit a tough shot that would have sent the game into overtime. Raphael Simon scored a team-high 21 points and came up with an offensive rebound to set up McAllister's game winning free throws. ARLINGTON (62) -- Simon 21, Willman 6, Holguin 3, McAllister 10, Aguirre 10, Christie 12.  RAMONA (59) -- Lewis 4, Downey 16, Carr 23, Fletcher 2, Alex 10, Diaz 4. Halftime score -- Arlington 37-34. Calvary Chapel Downey 62, Buena Park 40-- The Grizzlies used a 15-6 first quarter frun and Tim Drisdom scored 13 points.  Matt Henderson had 10 as did McKenna James for CC which improved to 14-2 with the win.

Coast Union 50, North County 26--Coast Union got off to a rusty start before outscoring North County 18-8 in the second quarter. Ryan Cooksey had a dozen and Jake Aura lifted the Broncos (4-6) with 19 points in the 50-26 win. Dominic Buzzelli led the Crusaders (2-11) with eight points, while Jessie Cone tallied six points and four rebounds. David Shannon and Paul Schrerner snatched seven rebounds each.

Desert Christian 62, Bloomington Christian 57--Andrew Brattrud scored 22 points and Tim Smith scored 15 points as the Conquerors won a back-and-forth battle in the Victory League. Mike Martin led Bloomington Christian with 34 points. Desert Christian (10-3, 2-0) travels to Hemet Baptist Christian on Tuesday. B.Christ.11 7 28 19 -- 57;  D. Fullerton 56, Westminster 34-- Virgil Bobar scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Indians as Fullerton improved to 13-4 overall and Westminster dropped to 8-10.  Daniel Fells had nine rebounds and seven assists for the
Indians.

Moreno Valley Calvary Chapel 61, Christian Center Academy 44 -- Ahead 42-37, Moreno Valley Calvary Chapel outscored host Colton Christian Center Academy 17-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a non-league victory. Josh Williford scored 17 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, and pulled down 15 rebounds for Calvary Chapel. Guard Nick Sainato, who made three three-pointers and was 5-of-5 from the free throw line, finished with a game-high 20 points and had 10 assists to lead Calvary Chapel.MORENO VALLEY CALVARY CHAPEL (61) -- Sainato 20, Shear 6, Williford 17, Crain 4, Leroy 6, Jaimez 8. Murrieta Valley 62, Diamond Bar 49-- After a two-point loss to Bell Gardens on Wednesday, the Brahmas dropped their final contest before Sierra League play, losing to Murrieta Valley 62-49.  Diamond Bar lacked intensity, failed to make enough free throws and struggled through the loss of standout guard Khalif Ford, who spent much of the second half on the bench due to foul trouble. The Nighthawks (9-5) did so early, running to a 17-9 first-quarter lead, as Ford and Mark Jecmen were the only Brahmas to score in the quarter. Jecmen led Diamond Bar with 18 points.  Diamond Bar managed to stay within reach at halftime, trailing just 28-21. But the Nighthawks sank all four of their three-point attempts in the third quarter, two each by Dan Larsen and C.J. Richardson, starting the rout. The Brahmas managed just eight points in the quarter and trailed by 17 at the end of the third.   Murrieta Valley used an 18-8 third quarter run to pull away for a non-league victory. C.J. Richardson scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the third to lead the Nighthawks. Norte Vista 64, Santiago 56 -- Norte Vista used an 8-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to grab the non-league victory SANTIAGO (56) -- Griffin 18, Coleman 16, LeDuc 8, Johnson 4, Cliett 2, Black 8.   NORTE VISTA (64) -- Hanley 19, W. Rancho Verde 69, Norco 60 -- J.S. Nash scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to help Moreno Valley Rancho Verde pull away and defeat Norco in a non-league game. Rancho Verde only had five fouls called against it in the game. Tarbut v Torah 57, South Bay Lutheran 45-- Geoff Keith led th eLions with 33 points and eight assists as TVT improved to 11-0, while SBL dropped ot 4-6 overall.  Webb led SBL with 17. Noahm Dashti had 14 points and 16 rebounds for TVT.

Templeton 73, Valley Christian Santa Maria 58--Templeton outscored Valley Christian 23-11 over the final eight minutes to pull out a 73-58 victory Templeton guard Devin Ramos was on fire from the perimeter, dropping in six three-pointers and a game-high 23 points. Jeff Kuhn continued his dominance in the center with 19 points for the Eagles.

Valley Torah 49, Montclair Prep 42-- VT scoring:  Yosi Goldman 15 7 rebounds, Dor Markush 10, Katz 8, and 7 rebounds, Goldberger 6, Gabay 6, Malkin 2, Rosenfield 2.  Montclair Prep scoring: Anderle 6, Trump 7, Monsour 6, Kaufman 23.  VT--11  9  9  20--49;  MCP--9   7  13  13--42.

Whitewater 54, Twin Pines 33 --details not available.

Yuma, Ariz. 76, Cathedral City 57-- After a 52-52 tie to start the fourth quarter, Yuma pumped in four 3-pointers and rolled to victory. Yuma (12-3) finished with 13 3-pointers as a team. The Lions (11-5) were led by Gerald DeVance with 24 points.
