Game Scores and Details From
Saturday 1/6/01--(Jan. 7, 2001)
Saturday saw only a handful of games, some league, some inter-league with several "Challenge" events (the Spot-Up Classic, the Crespi "Mission v. Marmonte" thingee, and the "Big City Brawl" which turned out not to be so big as evidently the anticipated LA Fremont v. Corona Centennial matchup didn't happen). Here are most of the scores and details we know about. If you know the score or details of a game and it's not shown send it in to us either by e-mail or by posting it on the message board.

Coast Union 78, Sierra 42-- (Central Section) Coast Unions Jake Aura and Monte Soto each poured in 14 points, but it wasnt enough in a 78-42 loss to Sierra (Central Section). Mater Dei 66, Villa Park 48--The Spartans (12-3) jumped out in front of the Monarchs (14-2) early in the game which was played in front of a packed house at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Gym. . . at least someone playing at a Cal State Fullerton facility is winning these days. Villa Park took an 11-4 lead, but Mater Dei came back into the game, and ultimately led by one at the end of the first quarter. At the half, the Monarchs led by five. Mater Dei then outscored the Spartans, 10-5, in the closing moments of the third quarter to take a 40-35 lead into the fourth. From there, Villa Park just fell off the wagon as Mater Dei scored the first seven points of the final quarter, and Villa Park did not hit a shot until more than five minutes had elapsed. UCLA signee Cedric Bozeman looked like he was getting ready to play at Pauley as he shot only 1-7 in the first half and finished 4-14 from the field. . .okay, that's a bit harsh, as even the Bruins managed to win yesterday, but really Bozeman was not "on" last night and while he had 18 ultimately (he was 8-10 from the line) neither was Jamal Sampson who came back after suffering a bout of the flu, managing to score 14 points. Sampson had 11 rebounds. Ricky Porter led all scorers with 20 points. Travis Gabler made a pair of clutch three-pointers, and Harrison Schaen had eight rebounds and four pretty impressive blocks. Sean Phaler led Villa Park with 15 points. Matt MacGinnis and Corey Miller scored 11 each as Villa Park shot 13 for 38 from the field; Mater Dei was 19 for 47.
