We're just catching up from the first three days of this week. Here's what happened Monday, 1/8/01. We know we are missing some game details so if you know the score or details of a game and it's not shown send it in to us either by e-mail or by posting it on the message board.

Bay League
Redondo 71, Mira Costa 44-- Redondo (11-4, 3-0) led, 9-8, with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter when it blitzed Mira Costa (9-6, 1-2) with a 21-4 run that ended with Eddie Topps' 3-point play. Junior power forward Adam Zahn scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter and he grabbed a game-high 9 rebounds. Redondo pressured Mira Costa point guard Jacob Insler into four turnovers in the first half and shooting guard DeWayne Morris into three for the game. Ailing with the flu and guarded by Dijon Thompson was not a fun combination for Morris, who missed his first eight field-goal attempts and finished 1-for-9 for two points and finished with 13 points.
Leuzinger 82, Santa Monica 78--Maurice Givens was 6-for-7 from the field with three 3-pointers and scored 19 points as Leuzinger defeated visiting Santa Monica, 82-78, for its first Bay League victory. Darryn Gilliam and Derrick Clark each scored 15 points. Brandon Dixon added 13 points for the Olympians (9-7, 1-3). Santa Monica is 7-8 overall and 0-3 in league.
Inglewood 66, Peninsula 58--D'Angelo Collins had 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in a balanced attack as host Inglewood (14-4, 4-0) overcame 26 points from Kevin Gardner of Peninsula (10-6, 1-2). Terrel Stovall also scored 11 points for Inglewoood while Teddy Fletcher added totaled 10 points, two assists and two steals.
Morningside 75, North Torrance 22-- Khali Young scored 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting as visiting Morningside (6-5, 2-1) downed North (3-10, 1-2).
Desert Valley League
Cathedral City 63, Coachella Valley 48--Thomas Shewmake
turned in a double-double to lead Cathedral City High School to a 63-48 Desert Valley
League boys basketball victory against Coachella Valley on Monday. Shewmake scored 17
points and hauled in 16 rebounds as the Lions
improved to 2-0 in the DVL and 12-5 overall. Gerald DeVance scored 17 points and Jeff
Lambert chipped in 12 points. Coachella Valley (6-6 overall, 1-2 in the DVL) was led by
Arturo Lomeli (19 points). Cathedral City 14 19 14 16 -- 63; Coachella

Palm Desert 79, Desert Hot Springs 34--Josh Zazulia
scored 23 points as the Aztecs (2-1, 12-4) bounced back from a loss to Palm Springs on
Friday. Dionte Harris had 13 points, Chase McQuillen 11 and Aki Sator 10 for Palm
Desert. Sal Coronel and Mateo Ortega both scored 10 points for Desert Hot Springs.

La Quinta 63, Palm Springs 52-- George Gutierrez
scored a game-high 22 points, and Chris Marrujo added 12 as the Blackhawks (2-1, 13-4)
took control early in the Desert Valley League game. Aaron Aceves had nine points and nine
rebounds, while Daniel Martinez had eight assists for La Quinta. Caleb Barton led

Garden Grove League
Garden Grove 45, Los Amigos 44-- Steve Sosa scored a game-high 15 points and Nick Davis added 10 to lead Garden Grove (2-1) over Los Amigos, 45-44, in a Garden Grove League boys basketball game Monday at Los Amigos High. The Argonauts led 28-24 at halftime. Peter Vu led the Lobos (8-9, 1-1) with 10 points and Joby Nanthavong had nine points on three three-pointers.
La Quinta 54, Santiago 48--Brian Minor scored 11 points and Aaron Sunu added 10 to lead the host Aztecs over the Cavaliers.
Bolsa Grande 63, Pacifica 50--David Doan scored a game high 28 points with six three-point field goals to lead the visiting Matadors (4-12, 2-0). Pacifica dropped to 2-1 in league.
Marmonte League
Agoura 64, Simi 54-- Simi Valley, the two-time defending league champion, had won 27 consecutive league games dating to the 1997-98 season. But Agoura, which never trailed, wore down the Pioneers, who committed 17 turnovers. Simi Valley (13-4, 2-1 in league play) cut a 12-point deficit to 55-49 with 3:27 to play. But Agoura (13-2, 2-0) outscored the Pioneers, 9-5, after calling a timeout with 3:13 to play. Adam Allegro scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Junior forward Kevin Cornwell led Agoura with 17 points and guard Johnny Gray added 16. For Simi Valley, Dustin Villepigue had 19 points and 15 reboudns and Ryan Bradshaw scored 18 points, including six three-point baskets. But the rest of the Pioneers combined to score only 17 points. Agoura made only 23 of 61 shots from the field, but the Chargers were eight of 13 from three-point range. Simi Valley made 21 of 55 shots.
Mission League
Crespi 89, Chaminade 80 (3OT)--Andrew Moore scored 37 points to help Crespi (13-3, 3-0) stay perfect in league play. Chaminade (9-6, 1-2) has now dropped two consecutive heartbreakers, falling at the buzzer to Notre Dame on Friday and then to the Celts on Monday. Crespi overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to force the first overtime, then fought out of a seven-point hole in the second overtime. Moore's 37 points, including two straight 3-pointers to open the first overtime and his game-deciding free throws down the stretch were key in the win. Kingsley Anyanwu had 15 points including a buzzer-beater from 15 feet to force the third overtime. Charlie Shiebler finished with 16. Chaminade senior forward Scott Borchart played on an injured ankle and finished with 22 points. Freshman Marcus Everett gave the Eagles the lead in the second overtime with a 3-pointer and two free throws, and senior Jordan O'Gilvie finished with 23 points
St. Francis 61, Loyola 60-- Michael Jenkins and Brett Mitchell combined for 29 second-half points and the Golden Knights (4-8, 1-2) won a Mission League game at St. Francis. Jenkins finished with 22 points and Mitchell had 16. The Cubs drop to 10-4, 1-1. Senior guards Brett Mitchell and Michael Jenkins did the bulk of the scoring for St. Francis. Leading the way for the Cubs -- who won the Redondo Seahawk Classic in December, upsetting Artesia in the final, were sophomores Chris Rucker and Omar Wilkes. Rucker had 22 points and eight rebounds. Wilkes contributed 17. Loyola 17 13 14 16 -- 60 St. Francis 13 11 18 19 -- 61 Loyola -- Rucker 22 and 8 rebounds, Wilkes 17, Flynn-Brown 10 and 7 rebounds, Crosner 6, Llewellyn 2, Sias 3. Notre Dame 74, Alemany 61--Cody Pearson had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights (15-2, 3-0) in a Mission League victory at Alemany. Michael Luderer had 16 points for Notre Dame. Evan Cline led all scorers with 27 points for Alemany (5-10, 0-2).
Moore League
Compton 66, Cabrillo 57--Compton-Greer 19, Hester 2, Davis 19, Moore 4, GThomas 12, Goodman 6, McMillan 6; Cabrillo --Kerlegon 6, Murray 11, Bennett 7, Brown 7, Redman 9, Flowers 8, Carter 7.
Poly 46, Lakewood 41--The Lancers (8-9, 0-3) got a game-high 21 points from senior guard Robert Hicks to make a serious run at the league favorites, but fell just short in the end. Poly (11-5, 3-0), which got 16 points from Mercedes Lewis but none from foul-prone Markee White, broke out to a 9-0 lead, but the Lancers came back and were within three by halftime and throughout the second half.
Wilson 55, Millikan 54--Senior center Quishawn Harrell scored a game-high 25 points, including the winning basket at the buzzer, to lead the Bruins (8-10, 2-1) past the visiting Rams. Jeff Terry added 17 points for Wilson, which trailed, 33-25, at halftime.
Ocean League
Compton Centennial 85, Culver City 70--Senior center Tony Key had 34 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the Apaches past visiting Culver City. Senior Timothy Eli added 10 points for Centennial (13-3, 3-0).
South Torrance 38, West Torrance 35--South Torrance held West to seven fourth-quarter points in the win Monday. Although Matt Peterson scored 11 points and Clete Albitz added 10 for South (9-5, 2-1), South's offense also struggled in the fourth, managing only seven points as well. Peterson also grabbed 13 rebounds and Albitz made five steals to lead the defensive effort. Teammate Robert Helmy also played a strong game, taking 11 rebounds. South held a seven-point lead at half, but West (8-6, 1-2), made a 13-9 third-quarter run to keep South in range. David Harris, who scored 12 to lead West, started the second half by hitting two close-range shots.
Torrance 63, Hawthorne 45--Marshawn Williams scored 22 points and had seven steals as Torrance (8-7, 2-1) won on the road. Dustin May added 12 points and Michael Williams added 11 points and seven steals.
Beverly Hills 67, El Segundo 57-- The Eagles lost at home despite 26 points and nine rebounds from Jeramie Hopson. DaShawn Strong had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and point guard Mike McCullough had 11 assists for El Segundo (7-9, 1-2).
Prep League
Flintridge Prep 54, Rio Hondo Pre 47-- --Brian Strand scored 28 points and the Rebels (7-8, 1-0) won a Prep League game at Flintridge Prep. RHP drpped it's second straight league game on Monday. RHP--Hampton 7, Eschevarria 6, Drain 4, Dinius 11, Prest 15, Westervoorde 2. FP--Harrison 2, O'Bryne 8, Strand 28, Mercer 4, Phelps 3, Lauer 9. RHP 3-10, 0-2.
San Gabriel Valley League
Dominguez 53, Gahr 43--Dominguez (12-2) playing without Tyson Chandler (flu) or Bobby Jones (strained achilles), managed to hang on for the win against a surprisingly tough Gahr (9-8) team. Dominguez--Chambers 16, Kindred 10, Bryant 2, Henderson 2, Johnson 2, Williams 17, Langster 4; Ghar--Reed 22, Jackson 7, Rhoane 7, Shipp 5, Acosta 2. Dominguez--11 13 11 18--53; Gahr--9 7 13 14--43.
Suburban League
Artesia 67, Cerritos 43--Malcohm Herron and Tony Roberts scored 12 points each as the Pioneers (11-2, 1-0) won their league opener at Cerritos.
Mayfair 93, Norwalk 66--Edwin Draughn had 22 points, 5 steals and 4 rebounds to lead five Mayfair players in double-figure scoring as the Monsoons (11-2, 1-0) routed the Lancers in a league opener.
Bellflower 95, Glenn 62--Senior guard Terrell Hendricks totaled 24 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Buccaneers (10-5, 1-0) past the visiting Eagles. Bellflower also got 19 points from senior forward Davon Jackson.
Bell-Jeff 59, Providence 46--Casey Markovic had 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Guards (10-6) in a nonleague victory at Bell-Jeff.
Valley League
Valley Torah 79, Coutin 54-- Valley Torah improved to 9-4 with thw win and 4-1 in league as Gabay had 10 and 5 steals, Rosenfield 13 and 15 rebounds and 5 blocks, Maulkin 4, D. Markush 15, Goldberger 10, O. Markush 6, Koshki 3 and Rubenstein 9. Coutin--Espinoza 16, Gutierrez 7, Huftan 2, Moore 6, Figlin 12, Foster 4, Quat 3, Travis 4.

Lompc 69, San Marcos 66--Junior forward Joel Smith tallied 16 of his game-high 30 points in the decisive fourth quarter Monday as Lompoc High rallied for a 69-66 non-league victory over San Marcos. The Royals, who led 55-45 going into the fourth quarter of the nonleague game at Lompoc, missed half of their 16 free throws, including the front end of two 1-and-1's in the final period. Asher Kupperman and Seamus McKiernan topped the Royals, 4-9, with 16 points apiece. Kupperman also had seven assists. Aaron Mercer scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds for San Marcos.SAN MARCOS -- Kupperman 16, Spaventa 4, Hopkins 5, Mercer 14, McKiernan 16, Cruse 6, Below 5. Totals 27 8-16 66. Jurupa Valley 65, Montclair 58--Milton Stanley scored 21 points and Demetris Walk added 16 points in the loss for Montclair (9-7). Tarbut v. Torah 66, Lighthouse Christian 48--Santa Monica Lighthouse Christian (4-6) lost as TVT's Geoff Keith score a game high 31 points with two three pointers for the Lions (12-0). Noam Dashti added 15 points and 14 rebounds for TVT.
