Game Scores And Details From
Monday 1/22/01--(Jan. 23, 2001)

Catching up is hard to do. . . but we're trying.  We'll have the game details from Friday and Saturday posted shortly too  In the meantime, here's what happened yesterday around  the Southern and LA City Sections. . . it wasn't much, but it's what we know.  If we missed something, send us the score (and a box score and details) by e-mail or post it to the message board.

De Anza League

Big Bear 61, Aquinas 58--details not available.

Freeway League

Buena Park 52, Fullerton 50--Eugene Ikahihifo made a layup and was fouled in the last 30 seconds of the game to help Buena Park take the lead and win. Ikahihifo finished with 20 points. Chris Ingram scored four of his nine points in the last three minutes of the game for Buena Park (6-13, 3-2).

Sonora 56, La Habra 44--Marcellus Robertson scored 16 points for the visiting Raiders (19-3, 5-0). La Habra is 11-11, 1-4.

Sunny Hills 61, Troy 55-- Sunny Hills improved to 12-7, 2-3 witht he win over Troy (11-11, 2-3). Troy was led by Tra. Hardeman with 14 and Dalafu with 19.

Garden Grove League

Pacifica 60, Garden Grove 53-- Garden Grove droped to 3-4 in league while Pacifica improved to 11-10 overall and 5-2 in league. Santos had 14 for Pacifica while Guzman led with 16 for Garden Grove.

Rancho Alamitos 62, La Quinta 51--Rancho Alamitos improved it's record to 7-12 and 5-2 in league while La Quinta dropped to 1-6 in league with the loss. Jackson had 17 while Aguilar had 18 for Rancho Alamitos. Torres had 12 for RA.

Marmonte League

Moorpark 88, Royal 51--Greg Estandia scored 19 points to lead host Moorpark (12-7, 3-3). Ron Russ added 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Matt Cormick and Kyle Vondrak each scored 10 points for Royal (0-6). Royal (51) — Burchfield 10, Hendershot 6, Johnson 7, Neil 6, Cox 2, Cormick 10, Vondrak 10. Moorpark (88) — Willis 8, Kauffmann 8, J. Fortman 2, S. Fortman 1, Adibzadeh 9, Ceja 6, Russ 18, Tormos 9, Sharpe 8, Estandia 19. Mission League

Harvard-Westlake 67, Alemany 64 (2OT)-- Alemany outscored H-W int he first half 26-20, and thenlost a little ground in the tird quarter as the Wolverines outscored the Indians 10-7.  In the final quarter of regulatoin, H-W made up th emissing round scoring 16 to Alemany's 13 points. Alemany--Surratt 14, Cline 17, Zamora 11 and 6 steals, Lance 15 and 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks, Edwards 0, Lichtman 4, Ingram 3;  H-W--Scott 4, Wwinstain 18, Taylor 13, Matthies 7, Coffey 8, Chung 6, Weinberger 6, Royster 5.  Alemany--14  12   7  13  10  8--64;  H-W--9  11  10  16  10   11--67. Records: Alemany 5-13, 0-5 ; Harvard-Westlake 8-11, 2-4. 

Mission Valley League

Arroyo 59, South El Monte 52- Aooryo improved to 7-12 with the win; South El Monte dropped to 5-13 and 1-3 with the loss. Matt Vogel had 14 for Arroyo to lead all scorers.

Moore League

Poly 64, Wilson 41--The Jackrabbits (7-0), who got 17 points from Jonathan Harper, 14 from Marcedes Lewis and 12 from Reggie Butler, remained undefeated in league after routing the Bruins. Wilson (9-12, 3-4) was led by Quishawn Harrel's 17 points.

Jordan 88, Compton 71--Senior forward Ron Banks scored a game-high 24 points, leading five Panthers in double figures, as Jordan used a 32-12 second quarter to beat the Tarbabes (3-4). The Panthers (16-8, 6-1) also got 14 points from Rashawn Childs, 13 from Josh Estrada, 11 from Clay Salima and 10 from Stephon Williams.

Millikan 70, Lakewood 64--Millikan senior point guard Keith Moore, suspended for the past two games, hit for 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the host Rams to a 70-64 win over Lakewood. Moore broke open a 25-25 halftime score by tallying 7 points, 3 assists and 3 steals while igniting a 17-3 Millikan run to begin the second half. Marcus Dove, a 6-foot-6 sophomore forward for Millikan (14-8, 2-5) added 16 points, while Rams senior guard Rodney Spencer had 10 points and 9 rebounds. John Wegner, a 6-4 junior forward, led Lakewood with 15 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks and 2 assists. Senior forward Armand Ivory added 17 points and 12 rebounds, while guard Robert Hicks scored 13 points. Lakewood (10-11, 2-5) kept the game close by outrebounding the Rams 25-11 in the first half and 46-32 over the game. The Lancers, however, hurt themselves with 19 turnovers, compared to 8 for Millikan. Millikan led 21-13 midway through the second quarter, but the Lancers finished the half on a 12-4 run, culminated by Tyrell McLaurin's two free throws with 6.8 seconds left. The Rams built their lead up to as much as 46-30 in the third quarter and never led by less than nine points before Wegner scored consecutive baskets to cut the score to 62-57 with 2:35 left in the game. Moore, however, responded by making 1 of 2 free throws. He then stole the ensuing inbounds pass and scored a layup to push Millikan's lead back to 65-57. Lakewood would get no closer than five points over the rest of the game

Mt. Baldy League

Ontario 89, Alta Loma 60 --The Jaguars nailed a dozen three-pointers, led by five from Marlon Mitchell and four by Cameron Munoz, in ripping the Braves in a Mount Baldy League game that was postponed from Jan. 10 because of a leaking roof. Mitchell led Ontario (14-5, 4-0) with 22 points and six rebounds, while Munoz finished with 16 points and nine assists. Brandon Kinney contributed 13 points and six rebounds, Marcel Mack had 10 points and Andrew Alhadeff added 10 assists. It was Ontario's fifth straight victory. The Jaguars made 12-of-21 from beyond the 3-point arc. Alta Loma (1-3 in league) was led by Sean Moore's 17 points ALTA LOMA (60) Denson 2, Patterson 2, Campbell 7, Cridland 5, Staley 2, Yaisrael 6, Moore 17, Evans 8, Cade 7, Hynes 4. ONTARIO (89) Marcel Mack 10, Munoz 16, Barbosa 2, Marcus Mack 4, Stepney 9, Mitchell 22, Alhadeff 8, Kinney 13, Dunn 5. Alta Loma 12 11 16 21 -- 60 Ontario 24 19 35 11 -- 89 Total fouls: AL 18, O 16. Fouled out: none. Technical fouls: none.

Rancho Cucamonga 77, Montclair 63--Guard Steve Watts (20 points and 11 rebounds) led Rancho Cucamonga's boys basketball team to a 77-63 Mt. Baldy League victory over Montclair on Monday at Alta Loma High School. The Cougars (7-13, 1-3) led by as many as 24 late in the third quarter, but Montclair (0-4 in league) used a 12-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to climb back into contention. The game was originally scheduled to be played last Friday at Rancho Cucamonga High School but a problem with the basket supports in the Cougars' gym forced the game to be moved to Alta Loma on Monday. Adam Steinmetz had 12 points and nine rebounds and Gerald Gilchrist scored 11 points to help Rancho to the win. The Cavaliers made eight 3-pointers as a team and were led in scoring by Demetrius Walk's game-high 25 points. RANCHO CUCAMONGA (77) Gilchrist 11, Williams 6, Hamilton 6, Acuna 6, Steinmetz 12, Aylor 2, Iszard 4, Brown 4, Powell 2, Washington 4, Watts 20. Omega League

Newbury Park Adventist 53, Skyward 39-- Newbury Park improved to 6-2, 3-0 in league.

Pacific View League

Camarillo 71, Hueneme 39--Jim Alstot scored 16 points and dished out five assists for Camarillo (10-11, 1-3) in the victory at Hueneme. Jared Jungwirth chipped in 14 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Hueneme (4-10, 1-3) was led by Micah Forbes' 12 points. Camarillo (71) — Varnum 3, Alstot 16, Caldwell 6, Boyer 3, West 8, Jungwirth 14, Reichel 6, Rasp 9, Wallman 6. Hueneme (39) — Lugo 2, J. Hawkins 4, Hall 1, Lemos 2, Jones 6, Orocio 9, D. Santa Fe League

Cathedral 62, Bell Jeff 59--Bell Jeff was led by Casey Markovic with 19, but it wasn't enough to stop Cathedral's Ervin Johnson and R. Ramos who combined for 36 points.  Andy Bunning added 10 points fo the Guards. Bell-Jeff came out strong against the Phantoms, jumping to a 39-29 lead at the half. But Cathedral poured on the offense in the second half, limiting the Guards to 17 points and scoring 33. Bell Jeff dropped to 11-8 overall and 1-3 inleauge;  Cathedral improved to 9-9 and 4-0 in league.  Bell Jeff-- Markovic 19, Bunning 10 and 10 rebounds, Kealey 7 and 11 rebounds, 8 assisets, Argento 1, Essa 2, Cabrera 5, Chavez 6, Johnson 3.  Cathedral --R. Ramos 20, Tea 8, Johnson 16, Vidales 8, Dineada 8, J. Ramos 2, Menendez 2. 

South Coast League

Mission Viejo 64, San Clemente 63--Travis Niesen scored 41 points, including the game-winning free throw in the final seconds, to help host Mission Viejo defeat San Clemente Monday in a South Coast League boys' basketball game. Eddie Miller made one free throw with three seconds remaining to make it 63-63, but he missed the second. Niesen got the rebound, his 14th of the game, and was fouled. He made one of two free throws to give the Diablos the winning margin.   Mission Viejo improved to 13-8, 2-3 while the Tritons drop to 13-5, 2-3

Capistrano Valley 77, Trabuco Hills 54--Jake Franzen scored 20 points, Matt Sweaney had 18 and Pete De Casas 14 for the visiting Cougars (18-2, 5-0). James Webster scored 21 points for Trabuco Hills (12-8, 2-3).

El Toro 61, Dana Hills 53--Ashkan Nazeri had 15 points and Matt Green 10 points and 10 rebounds for El Toro (19-2, 4-1). Ken Tanaka had six assists for the Chargers. Dana Hills dropped to 9-12, 0-5 in league.

Suburban League

Mayfair 79, Cerritos 48--Senior guard Josh Childress led all scorers with 28 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Monsoons (16-3, 6-0) over the Dons. Mayfair also got 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals from senior guard Edwin Draughan.

Bellflower 90, Norwalk 60--Behind a team-high 20 points from Terrell Hendrickson and 15 each from Justin Allen and Delanta Lewis, the Bucs (12-8, 3-2) powered past the Lancers. Zack Hall paced Norwalk with 25 points.

La Mirada 74, Glenn 63--Junior point guard Charlie Torres scored 20 points and teammate Carlos Moreira added 11 as the Matadores rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to win at Glenn (7-13, 2-3)

Westside League

Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian 66, Milken 41-- GH HC was led by Alex Martino with 16 points and 6 blocked shots, while Amir Nat had 12 and Amrit Nat 11.  Hodgkins 9 and 14 rebounds, Alecock 6, Haddad 2, Karich 10.   Milken--Powell 6, Gurvitz 6, Milgrom 9, Nourmand 3, Mintz 8, Mossamon 4, Fisher 2, Michel 1, Lich 2.  GH C improves to 11-3, 7-0 in league.

Non-League Southern Section Games-- Monday, Jan. 22, 2001

Santa Clara 59, Villanova 41--Alex Minney scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead visitng Santa Clara (9-10). Albert Soria had 14 points, five assists and three steals. Richard Fore scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds for Villanova (4-7). Santa Clara (59) — Davis 6, Santana 2, Soria 14, Minney 15, LaJoie 7, Griffin 2, Ramirez 11, Beverford 2. Villanova (41) — Fore 24, Amkas 2, Bullen 1, Roach 3, Gibson 11.  SC--17 18  14    10--59; V--10  10  12  9--41; 3-Point goals — Santa Clara 3 (Soria 2, LaJoie 1). Villanova 4 (Fore 3, Gibson 1). Fouled out — Santa Clara, Davis. Rebounds — Villanova (Fore 10, Namikas 9). Records — Santa Clara 9-10, Villanova 4-7.

Stoneridge Prep 74, LA Lutheran 52-- with the win Stoneridge imroved to 11-5 overall.  LA Lutheran is 4-7.  Stoneridge: Williams 25, Delgado 2, Nans 21, Shansabazi 12, Shebastari 14..

Westview 57, Trinity Lutheran 53-- Westview improved to 12-3 with the win as Johnson scoed 26 and 6 assists, Benson 13 and 5 blocks, Teeguarden 12.  Trinity was led by Espinoza with 17, Phillips 15, and Polzik 14.
