First Round Results--(Feb. 17, 2001)

The LA City Section Invitational bracket went just about according to the seeding, with all of the higher seeded teams winning with the exception of a one point "upset" win by Reseda against Canoga Park, and No. 9 Hamilton which knocked off No. 8 Granada Hills. Here's the bracket updated, and the results (and details) where we could locate them.  Second Round games are all on Wednesday, 2/21.

Jordan 57, Kennedy 50--no details were available.

Hamilton 72, Granada Hills 68--Ryan Hicks had 18 points and Eddie Degerman added 17 points and 17 rebounds, but it wasn't enough for the Highlanders (11-15) in a first-round loss at Granada Hills.

Eagle Rock 51, Franklin 39--ditto, no details.

Garfield 62, Locke 55--again, no details available.

Carson 50, LACES 40-- While his brother was pulling it out for Crenshaw in the Championship bracket, Carson's Ekene Ibekwe had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead third-seeded Carson (15-11) to a second-round win at home. Carson started the game with a 14-6 first-quarter run. Errol Jackson added nine points and seven rebounds. Carson will host Birmingham Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Birmingham 51, Jefferson 48--Haig Tatian had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Nick Halic scored 10 for the Patriots (10-10) in a victory at Birmingham.

Reseda 71, Canoga Park 70--Sergei Lepiashinski and Eric Johnson each made five free throws in the fourth quarter and the Regents (14-12) held on in a first-round game at Canoga Park. Reseda outscored the Hunters, 19-12, in the fourth quarter. Lepiashinski finished with 23 points and Johnson scored 11.  Cecil Brown of Canoga Park, who scored 36 points including seven on three-point baskets, was held to eight points in the second half by a box-and-one defense that used Edwin Reed as the chaser.

Narbonne 74, Monroe 60--Beto Delgado hit five 3-pointers on his way to 25 points, nine assists and five rebounds to lead No. 2 seeded Narbonne (19-7). Brannon Nichols scored 13 points and had six rebounds. Christian Smith scored 11 points and five assists and Matthew Terry added 10 points. The 15th-seeded Vikings led, 49-47, after three quarters but were unable to upset the No. 2 Gauchos at Narbonne. Ramal Goodrich scored 25 points and Tylon Jones added 12, but Monroe (11-14) was hurt by an intentional foul call late in the fourth quarter, which led to five Narbonne points and an eight-point lead.
