DIVISION II-A

Mayfair 58, Bishop Amat 44--The Lancers, making their first quarterfinal-round appearance in 13 years, ran into a buzzsaw in the top-seeded Monsoons. Mayfair's highly-regarded senior Josh Childress scored 25 points and Edwin Draughan added 18 points as the host team moved into a semifinal matchup with Huntington Beach Ocean View. Ocean View upended Monrovia, 62-53, in its quarterfinal-round game.  Bishop Amat, which trailed 36-32 entering the final quarter, was led by Paul Porter's 14 points. John Haywood had 13 points and Randy Jimenez had 12 points for the Lancers.

Ocean View 62, Monrovia 53--Marques Crane had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Steve Clarke made four three-pointers and had 13 points and Torin Beeler, in his second game back from mononucleosis, had eight points and seven rebounds for Ocean View (22-6), which led, 30-15, at halftime. The Seahawks will face Lakewood Mayfair in a semifinal Friday.

Muir 51, Artesia 48--Chris Dickson threw a length of the court pass to Joseph Frazier in Tuesday's night's CIF-Southern Section Division II-A basketball playoff game with 33 seconds left, and Frazier scored the layup and was intentionally fouled as Muir pulled out the win ans sent Artesia packing. The win avenges last season's semifinal loss to the Pioneers, who shortly thereafter in the State Tournament crumbled as their program came unraveled.  Last night Muir led by as many as 11 points in the second half and held a six point lead with just over a minute left when Artesia began to force Muir to shoot free throws and with Muir failing to hit three out of four, it looked as if Muir might not win. Artesia (22-7) made an effort, but never got any closer than four in the fourth quarter. Senior Ryan Reyes scored a team-high 12 points to lead three players in double figures. Melleur had six blocked shots.

Redondo Union 62, Dos Pueblos 47-- Keith Ellison had 14 points and went 4-for-7 from the 3-point line and Redondo's defense kicked in with eight blocked shots as the Sea Hawks defeated Dos Pueblos, 62-47, in a Division II-A second-round playoff game at Redondo on Tuesday.  The Sea Hawks' defense also forced 17 turnovers and had 12 steals (Ellison had five). Redondo (23-5) went on a 23-9 run in the second quarter after ending the first quarter trailing Dos Pueblos, 10-8. Dijon Thompson had 13 points and five rebounds and Adam Zahn had 12 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots for Redondo. Wendell White also added 12 points and seven rebounds.  Redondo will face Muir in Friday's semifinals at a site to be determined. Muir defeated Artesia 51-48 in the second round. Dos Pueblos finished the season at 18-6. DOS PUEBLOS -- Graybill 10, Cowan 10, Roegner 6, Menna 6, Jenkins 6, Dalley 4, Sherman 4, Iden 1. Totals 16 11-14 47. REDONDO UNION -- Ellison 14, Johnson 13, White 12, Zahn 12, Topps 8, Meynen 3. Totals 26 5-10 62. Dos Pueblos--10  9 14 14 -- 47 Redondo Union--8 23 11 20 -- 62 ; 3-point goals--DP 6 (Menna 2, Graybill 2, Jenkins 1, Cowan 1), RU 5 (Ellison 4, White 1). Total fouls--DP 15, RU 15.
