CIF-SS Boys II-A Bracket Updated:
Semifinal Results & Details--(Feb. 28, 2000)

We've been unavoidably pulled away from the site for the last few days due to some personal business, and to those who offered their condolences, thank you.  But life goes on, and so do the playoffs.  We've already reported the scores and the details from last Friday's semifinals games, but didn't get a chance to update the brackets.  There were no games on Tuesday (obviously, since the semifinals were played last Friday in this bracket) but we're posting the details again, so they're all centrally located.

The final tgame will be played on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and will feature Mayfair (26-2) v. Redondo (25-5).  We'll have a full preview tomorrow.

In the meantime, here's the reprise of Friday's semifinal games, followed by the updated bracket:

Mayfair 61, Ocean View 40--Marques Crane was held scoreless in the first half, and Torin Beeler finished with just seven points, while Ocean View's Kevin Chow added eight, Steve Clarke and Neal Smith, both starters, did not score, as Ocean View was denied the chance to contend again for a Section title as Mayfair defeated Ocean View at Gahr HS on Friday night. Justin Hawkins, who was on the Mayfair JV for most of the season, scored 16 points to help lead Mayfair to the 21 point win over the Seahawks (22-7). The Monsoons (25-3) will advance to the finals against Redondo Union.   Marques Crane of Ocean View managed to shut down Mayfair's Josh Childress who finished with 6;points on 2-9 shooting; likewise, Crane, who finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, was shut down in the first first half. Edwin Draughan had 11 points, 8 boards and 3 assists. Mayfair was also led by matt McCraw with 12 points, Brian McFadden 8. Mayfair led 24-14 at the half, but in the third quarter, after Mayfair scored the first four points of the third quarter, Crane scored the next seven points to bring the scored to 28-21. Mayfair then went on a 6-0 run. The Seahawks shot only 13 of 48 from the field and 10 of 22 from the foul line.

Redondo 58, Muir 37-- Redondo (24-5) beat Muir on Friday night, ending a 19-game win streak for Muir and sending Redondo to next Saturday's finals where they will play Mayfair. Muir had previously won 26 of its last 28 games. The Mustangs' shooting was off the whole night, whether inside or outside. CSUN-signee Joseph Frazier's first shot went over the backboard, and his second was an airball; from the outside, they shot 2-25 from three point range; when they went inside, the Mustangs had 12 shots blocked; they shot 5-12 from the line.Junior center Seth Davis led Muir with 10 points. Frazier had a team-high nine rebounds and three steals. Muir led 9-4 in the first quarter. But then Redondo forced five turnovers and blocked four shots, and the Seahawks went on a 12-0 run, and led 16-9, before closing out the first half with a lead of 23-15, a low scoring night in anyone's book. In the third quarter, Dijon Thompson and Wendell White hit back to back jumpers, and the Seahawks went up by 21 points by the end of the third. Thompson finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Adam Zahn and Keith Ellison each had 12.
