Dunn 52, Bishop Diego 50--The Earwigs compiled an 18-3 run, which spanned the final two quarters, to defeat the Cardinals in a first round game and post their first CIF playoff victory in school history.  Dunn guard Joey Greene led all scorers with 20 points while his teammate Garth Dixon, a forward, contributed 16 points in the come-from-behind victory.  The Earwigs (13-4) trailed by 16 at the end of the third quarter, but outscored Bishop Diego 22-10 in the final period.  Dunn, a six-man squad, managed to keep up with Bishop Diego, which finished third in the Tri-Valley League.  Dunn advances to play Verbum Dei on Friday. Ontario Christian 68, San Gabriel Academy 55--Three Ontario Christian High boys' basketball players recorded double-doubles, sending the Knights into the second round.   Bobby Gibson scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the way for Ontario Christian (18-6), which opened a 17-3 lead after the first quarter and never trailed. Gibson added six assists and three blocks.  Greg Talen finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Travis Hoekstra contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds. David Landry scored 11 points and Chris Garcia had seven assists for the Knights, who face Desert in the second round on Friday.  Jason Killebrew paced San Gabriel Academy with 18 points.

Oakwood 62, St. Margaret’s 55 (OT)--Nick Mark, a 6-8 senior center, had 21 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots to help the Gorillas (16-6) win a first-round game in overtime at St. Margaret's.  Eric Noble had 14 points and seven assists for Oakwood (16-6) and teammate Derek Fetty scored all five of his points in overtime. Ed Ortega made five three-pointers and scored 15 points for the host Tartans (13-11), who were outscored, 11-4, in overtime.

St. Anthony 66, Riverside Bethel Christian 52--Jay Arizabal scored a game-high 30 points as defending VAA champion Long Beach St. Anthony pulled away to a first-round victory. Riverside Bethel Christian stayed in the game by holding Lauren Brown, St. Anthony's leading scorer, to one point. Eric Heiliger had 22 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for Bethel Christian. Serra 81, Bell-Jeff 64-- The Serra boys basketball team came out strong to top Bell-Jeff, 81-64, in a first-round game of the Division V-AA playoffs on Wednesday at Serra. Serra jumped ahead 23-11 in the first quarter and Bell-Jeff (14-12) never cut the lead to fewer than seven points. Guard Eugene Jeter led the Cavaliers (14-12) with 27 points and five assists. Jeter hit three of five 3-pointers.  Loren Wade had a 21-point, 12-rebound performance. Wade was 7-for-11 from the field and 7-for-8 at the free-throw line. Willie Asberry contributed 14 points, including two 3-pointers, six rebounds and four assists. Chris Hempfield grabbed 11 rebounds. Serra will face St. Anthony on Friday at a site to be determined by a coin flip.

Arrowhead Christian 81, Riverside Christian 41 --Nick Goltry scored 24 points to lead Redlands Arrowhead Christian to a first-round victory.Adam Dohner added 22 points, including four three-pointers, for the Eagles, who face Whitewater in the second round. Raymond Manning scored 17 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Riverside Christian. RIVERSIDE CHRISTIAN (41) -- Ayres 2, Chiado 3, Williams 9, DeCarlo 3, Manning 17, Faulkner 2, Bowlus 5.  ARROWHEAD CHRISTIAN (81) -- Becerra 11, N.Goltry 24, Dohner 22, Breckley 2, J.Goltry 6, Cloud 7, Cruz 2, Carter 3, Greene 4. La Sierra Academy 57, Windward 54 (OT)--Edson Verde hit a three-pointer and Anthony Paschal added a basket as Riverside La Sierra Academy scored five points in the first minute of overtime and pulled away with a victory in a Division 5AA first-round game. Michael Kiemeney had 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Knights, who extended their winning streak to seven games. La Sierra Academy plays Malibu Kilpatrick Friday in a second-round game. Thacher 66, La Verne Lutheran 49--Thacher was led by Butts with 18, Back with 17, and point guard Tornes had 8 as did Douds. Thacher broke out to a 20-7 lead and then saw it fade as La Verne Lutheran came back to tie the game 24-24 at the half, but then collapsed in the final 5 minutes of the fourth quarter as Thacher took a 2 point lead and turned it into an 18 point lead at one point.  Thacher will travel to Buckley for the second round matchup.

Montclair Prep 56, LA Lutheran 28--Derek Daniels had 23 points and Eric Kaufman added 12 as the Mounties of Van Nuys (12-13) won easily in a Division V-AA game at Montclair Prep.

Woodcrest Christian 70, Bloomington Christian 48--Laird Musich scored 10 of his 20 points in the first quarter to help Woodcrest Christian defeat Bloomington Christian in a Division 5AA first-round game. Woodcrest Christian opened with a 23-7 run and led the rest of the way. Woodcrest made a season-high 11 three-pointers.   Mike Martin scored a game-high 24 points for the Ravens (19-3), and Johnnie Smith added 10. Boys Republic 69, Holy Martyrs 58--Armen Rostanian had 24 points and Garo Ghevondian added 13 points for the Armens of Encino (11-13) in a Division V-AA loss at Boys Republic. Markus Cotten scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the Rams to their first playoff victory in school history.  Matthew Manzano added 18 points for Boys Republic (16-10), which advances to meet Hillcrest Christian of Granada Hills on Friday in the second round. The Rams trailed 27-23 at halftime, but outscored Holy Martyrs 24-12 in the third quarter to take the lead and control of the game.

Flintridge Prep 74, Laguna Blanca 39--Flintridge Prep (13-11), making its third consecutive postseason appearance after a six-year hiatus, used a 22-6 run in the second quarter to built a 40-21 lead. Desert Christian 69, Fairmont 56--Phil Parker had 25 points and Tommy Pickens added 15 for the Eagles (18-6) in a Division V-AA win at Desert Christian. William Washington scored 24 points and Mike Pastrano added six points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies (13-8) in the loss.

Sherman Indian 60, Upland Christian 41-- The Braves opened up a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.  Slater Nez led all scorers with 27 points, including three from three-point range. Sherman Indian, the No. 2 team from the Arrowhead League, moves on to the second round. Nez, a senior point guard, had seven points in the first quarter as Sherman Indian jumped out to a 17-8 lead and never trailed. M-Ache Martinez added 11 points for Sherman Indian. Mesrobian 59, Renaissance Academy 53--Bulldog guard Mike Gabriel scored 13 fourth-quarter points to lead his squad to a 60-53 win Wednesday night at Renaissance. Renaissance shot just four for 26 (15.4%) from the field in the final eight minutes.   Led by Eric Parker and Aaron Clitheroe, Renaissance (11-9) battled back from a slow start to take a 42-41 lead with 6:58 remaining. But the Wildcats sank just three field goals the rest of the way and key three pointers late in the game by Gabriel -- who finished with a game-high 36 points -- put them away. First Lutheran 60, Valley Christian Academy 55--John Stark had 31 points and 15 rebounds for Falcons of Sylmar (14-7) in a Division V-A win at Valley Christian Academy.

Ahead 36-33, Desert Christian went on a 14-7 run to start the fourth quarter. Andrew Brattrud scored four of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Conquerors, and Richard Mangus finished with 12 points. Desert Christian plays Wildomar Cal Lutheran Friday at a site to determined Thursday by coin flip. HESPERIA CHRISTIAN (45) -- Glass 16, McDonald 13, Little 8, Rehrer 6, Patterson 2.  DESERT CHRISTIAN (50) -- Brattrud 14, Mangus 12, Smith 10, Johnson 10, Santana 4. Halftime score -- Hesperia 27-24. Thousand Oaks Hillcrest Christian 56, Newbury Park Adventist 49--Tom Logan had 25 points as the Saints of Thousand Oaks (10-11) outscored Newbury Park Academy 20-12 in the fourth quarter to win in a Division V-A game at Hillcrest Christian. Logan scored 17 points in the second half.

Acaciawood 51, Immanuel Christian 43--Jesse Cope scored 22 points with 13 rebounds for the Koalas (16-54).  IC dropped to 11-9 on the year.

Antelope Valley Christian 70, Redlands Calvary Chapel 47--Jamal Flanagan had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the second-seeded Eagles (19-6) to a victory at Antelope Valley Christian.  John Cho had 19 points, nine rebounds and seven steals for Antelope Valley
Christian.
