Early Friday Result: D-VAA
Yeshiva Beats Sherman Indian--(Feb. 16, 2001)

Now this probably won't rank up there with earthshaking news, and it's not the biggest game in Division V-AA, and certainly not the biggest game that will be taking place today in the first and second round games going on all over the Southern and City Sections, but it's probably the first one played today, since it took place at 1:00 p.m. today, and Yeshiva won, by 20, 86-66.  Here's a report of the game we got from someone who was there. . . at least this will save us the time of posting it up later, and we want to thank our friend for sending in the details:

Sherman Indian versus Yeshiva was a run and gun affair from the begining.  Sherman Indian boasted a top flight player in Slater Nez who scored 16 points  and Stephen Hubbard poured in 25 (12 in the fourth quarter). YULA had a   balanced attack led by Abey Malkin's 19 points. Kenny Pollack scored 17,  Seth Dorfman 16, Mike Pollack 11, Adi Isaacs 10, and Isaac Gabai 7 off the  bench. Seniors Alex Kalmanovich and Lesley Portnoy each chipped in 2.  The Panthers opened a double digit lead in the second quarter before Sherman Indian went on a run to cut the gap to six at halftime. In the second half  YULA poured in 31 points with Mike Pollack scoring 11 points in the quarter. The Panthers held their 20 point lead throughout the quarter.   Sherman Indian's scoring included Leon Ivins with 10, Daniel Key with 5,   Daniel Flores with 4, M-Achi Martinez with 4 and Malachi Palone with 2. Sherman Indian --17 14 17 18--66; Yeshiva-- 21 16 31 18--86.
