CIF-SS Playoffs: Division IV-AA & A
Games Today--(Feb. 14, 2001)

Two Divisions in Southern Section IV, which really should be combined (in our humble opinion) just as was done with lII AA and A last year.  There are wild card games in both divisions tonight only.  All games are at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted below:

Division IV-AA

Only wild card games tonight:

Game A: Twentynine Palms (DNR) @ Kern Valley (11-11)-- This game will be played @  5:30 p.m. not 7:30.  Twentynine Palms was put into the bracket after Big Bear was erroneously inserted by the seeding committee.  The error was rectified on Monday, but we just received official confirmation of it.    The winner of this game will play Crespi (19-6)--tied for No. 1 in Mission League with Notre Dame--on Friday @ Crespi.

Game B:  Valley Christian Cerritos (16-10) @ La Salle (16-9)--The winner of this game will play @ Ocean League No. 1 El Segundo (16-11) on Friday night.

Game C:Paraclete (7-14) @ Morro Bay (12-12)--Paraclete finished No. 3 in Alpha League while Morro Bay was No. 3 in Los Padres League.  The winner will play St. Bonaventure (17-6), the No.1 team in the Tri-Valley League on Friday.

Game D:  Rosamond (15-9) @ St. Paul (14-13)--Following a four way tie in Del Rey League for second, St. Paul lost a series of coin fligps and finished last, entering as an at-large team.  Rosamond finished as the High Desert League's No. 4 entrant, behind Desert, Bishop, and Kern Valley, but ahead of Mojave, Frazier Mountain and Vasquez.  The winner will play Duarte (17-7), the Montview League's No. 1 team on Friday @ Duarte.

Division IV-A

Only two wild card games tonight:

Game A:  Maranatha (11-12) @ St. Bernard (13-13)--Both of these teams enter as At-large petitions.  St. Bernard finished fourth in Del Rey after the coin flips to break a four way tie for second (Bishop Amat and Serra got the last two automatic spots when they took second and third with the coin tosses. . . Bishop Montgomery finished first based on wins alone).  Maranatha has struggled somewhat this year despite some excellent players, finishing 4th in the 6-team Olympic League.   The winner will play Providence (15-8) which finished second to Buckley (21-3) in the Liberty League.  That game will take place on Friday @ Providence.

Game B:  Loma Linda (10-10) @ LA Baptist (13-7)--Both teams enter as At -Large teams on petitions.  Loma Linda finished 5th in the 7 team Christian League (behind Western Christian, Arrowhead Academy, Ontario Christian, and Woodcrest Christian).   LA Baptist, finished fourth in Alpha League, behind Kilpatrick (22-1), Marshall (13-8), and Paraclete (7-14).  LAB won just two games in league (2-6), while Loma Linda went 5-7 in league.  The winner of this game will play @ Calvary Chapel Santa Ana (19-5), the No. 1 team in Olympic League. That game will be on Friday, 2/16.
