LA City Section Western League:
All League Selections--(Feb. 13, 2001)
Most people who follow high school hoops in SoCal are keenly aware that the LA City Section has a very large number of top players. . . And those who really know, recognize that the Western League (Westchester, Fairfax, Venice, Palisades, Hamilton, University and Los Angeles) has more D-I caliber players than just about any other league in the Southland, and that includes just about any league in the Southern, Central or San Diego sections. Some believe it's among the hardest leagues, top to bottom, in the country. . . . We're not sure about the latter statement, but it's probably not too far off the mark either. The Western League held their All-League selections, and unlike some of the Southern Section Leagues, the coaches in this league recognize the value of recognizing all of the talent they've got. So in addition to a first and second team of all-league selections, they've got a third team, and an "honorable mention" category. . . and even after all those selections (25 in all, including the Co-MVP's, and Most Outstanding Player), we can still think of at least 10 or so guys who got left off. . .10 guys who are possibly legitimate college-level prospects. Here are the selections for 2000-2001 from the LA City Section Western League All-League:
