Best In The West Summer
Tournaments Are Back--(Mar. 31, 2001)
Remember the "Best in the West" series of tournaments, both the summer and winter vsions? Well, they're back and hopefully they'll be better than ever, starting with the summer series of tournaments for high schools teams.
In the past these summer tournaments, played at Artesia High school and other locations, including Lynwood HS, have featured such teams as Artesia, Dominguez, Long Beach Ply, Jordan, Clovis West, Bishop Montgomery, Mater Dei, Mayfair, Redondo, Santa Margarita, Peninsula, Servite, Westchester, Fairfax, St. John Bosco, Torrance, Harvard-Westlake, Moorpark, North Torrance, San Bernardino, Valley Christian Cerritos, Whitney, Chaminade, Carson, Loyola, Downey, Bonita Vista, Kennedy, Los Alamitos, Cathedral, Clovis, and many, many others.
This summer there will be 6 different "Best in the West" Tournaments, three varsity level tournaments, and two for underclass team (2 JV and 1 freshmen tournament). Interested coaches can get a substantial discount by entering all six tournaments for just $850.00, or $175 each for the varsity and $150 each for the three non-varsity events. Here's what's up:
"Small Schools Varsity Best in the West"
Tournament
7/19-7/20
Fee: $175.00 per team
Location: Whitney HS, Cerritos, CA
The first varsity tournament in the series is actually the next to last speaking chronologically: the "Small Schools Varsity Best in the West" which will run from June 19th through June 21. Registration is $175.00 per team and this one is intended for schools with enrollments of 1,200 students or less. We're not certain of the exact location, but if you need information, contact Jeff Day at 562-860-3727 or email him at Zeebraboss@aol.com
"Lynwood Summer Jam BIW"
6/26-6/30
Fee: $175.00
Location: Lynwood HS
Second in the series of varsity tournaments (acutally first chronologically) is the "Lynwood Summer Jam Best in the West" which will take place at Lynwood HS from June 26-June 30. Again, registration is $175.00 per team and this one is intended for all high school varsity teams, but mostly those in the higher enrollment divisions, i.e., more than 1,200 students, but everyone who thinks they'll be competitive is welcome to participate. We're not certain of the exact location, but since it's called the "Lynwood Summer Jam" we're guessing that it wil be at Lynwood HS. If you need information or want to register, contact Jeff Day at 562-860-3727 or email him at Zeebraboss@aol.com
"Best in the West Summer Finale"
July 26 through July 29
Fee: $175.00
Location: Cerritos Gahr HS
Finally, the third tournament in the series of varsity events is the "Best in the West Summer Finale Tournament" which will run at the same time as several other tournaments right at the end of the summer open exposure, from July 26-29. We're not certain if this will affect attendance, because most of the teams who attend the Big Time will be headed back to LA for the Best of Summer or up to Oakland for another tournament being hosted by Oakland Slam N Jam, but there will undoubtedly be enough high school teams around who will want to enter this one. Registration is also $175.00 per team (just like the other events). The location will be at Gahr HS, which has three full courts which can run side by side (when the stands on both sides are pulled in. This one will feature a four game minimum and the officiating will include 2 or 3 CIF or NCAA officials. but if you need information or want to register a team, contact Jeff Day at 562-860-3727 or email him at Zeebraboss@aol.com . This one is expected to fill before May, so send in your registration early.

There will be two JV Best in the West Tournaments. The first will run from July 5-8, while the second will run from July 19-21. Entrance fees for each tournament will be $150 per tournament. There's a "special" price though if you enter any two non-varsity events ($275.00) or for all 3 non-varsity ($400). As with the other tournaments, if you want to register a team or need more infomration, contact Jeff Day at 562-860-3727 or email him at Zeebraboss@aol.com.
"Best in the West Freshman Tournament"
