Cal-Hi Sports All-State Teams
Overall
(Not By Division)--(Mar. 29, 2001)
Each year, Cal-Hi Sports performs the task of naming the "All-State" teams and players. Many have asked whether this is the "official" all-state team, and the real answer to that is "yes" and "no". The State CIF office does not technically issue the All-State awards; they don't have the staff, the manpower, nor the other resources (e.g., money and time) to do it. While the State CIF is fairly efficient at putting on a State Championship Tournament, the task of post-season honors really has fallen on the shoulders of Cal-Hi Sports, and it's a task that they've performed year in and year out, and by and large, they've done an admirable job. Mark Tennis and his staff comb the State, solicit opinions and nominations from all over, including coaches, fans and media, and this year they even went so far as to openly solicit everyone and anyone to submit nominations for All-State honors on the Cal-Hi Sports website. While some may agree or disagree with some of the picks, generally disagreement is really only of the sort of who was left off, not who was included. In our view, there isn't a player named to any of these lists who didn't deserve the special recognition accorded. Perhaps others also deserved it too, but hey, these are Cal-Hi's lists, and if you've got a gripe, talk to them not to us. We're just passing them along, and again, we think these are very good selections. Congratulations to all of the players selected, you deserve it.
