HS Coaching Changes:
Comings And Goings--(Mar. 3, 2001)

Actually this one should just be titled "Goings" because for now at least we don't know of any coaches who've yet been hired.  There have been several resignations of coaches reported around the region.  Here are some of the recent resignations announced this past week:

Paul Orris, Corona del Mar HS-- The LA Times and the OC Register both reported this past week that Orris, a 15 year veteran at CDM,  has resigned as boys' basketball coach. Orris, 53, said he would take at least one season off from coaching basketball, remaining as a math teacher at the school.      Orris led his varsity teams to a 229-199 record, including Southern Section Division IV-AA championships in 1993 and '95. His Sea King teams won three league titles and made 12 trips to the postseason, where they were 29-10.   Corona del Mar finished 12-17 this season, reaching the quarterfinals of the Division III-AA playoffs.

Rob Hall, Oak Park HS-- The Times and the Ventura County Star reported that Rob Hall, who coached at Oak Park for 10 seasons, has also resigned to spend more time with his family.  Hall, 37, turned Oak Park High into a perennial boys' basketball playoff participant, leading the Eagles to a 157-93 record. The Eagles went 19-9 this season and advanced to a section semifinal for the first time. Hall took over a program that was 0-20 in 1991-92, had never won a Tri-Valley League title or appeared in the playoffs. Oak Park reached the playoffs each season and won five league championships in Hall's tenure.  He will remain as a teacher at the school.

Jeff Young, Chaminade HS -- Young was reported to have resigned by both the LA Times and the Daily News in order to pursue his career as a coach at the college level.  Young had made no secret of the fact that he wanted to pursue a college job at some point, and many expected that with the graduation of Scott Borchart (6'-8" Sr. F) that Young would also call it quits at the high school level. While neither the Times nor the Daily News reported any definite or firm offers extended to Young, they did note that he led Chaminade to become a perennial playoff participant and the Southern Section III-A title in 1999.   The news of Young's departure though was followed up on Sunday with a story in the LA Times about possible recruiting violations involving several players including most recently allegations that Young had illegally recruited Will Sheslow from Montclair Prep to attend Chaminade this past year.  Sheslow received little playing time, despite having averaged in the range of 4 assists per game and 10 ppg as a two-year starter for Montclair Prep.  Sheslow eventually quit the team and transferred in mid-season to Granada Hills HS.  Saturday's edition of the Times reported that Chaminade's administration had investigated the charges of recruiting, and determined that Young had not violated any Southern Section CIF rules.
