Kilpatrick Coach Alvin Brown
Dead At 29--(Mar. 20, 2001)

We were shocked and saddened to read in the Daily News and the LA Times this morning of the sudden and unexpected passing of Coach Alvin Brown, the boys' basketball coach at Kilpatrick.   According to published reports, he died early Sunday after collapsing while playing basketball. He was just 29 years old.

According to Keith Kondo, a spokesman from the school who is with the LA County Probation Department (which runs the Kilpatrick school facility in Malibu as part of the LA Court system schools for juvenile offenders) Brown was stricken during a church league game Saturday in Long Beach. He was taken to a local hospital immediately and died Sunday morning.

In just his third year at Kilpatrick, Brown led the Mustangs to the Southern Section V-AA final, and the school's first Alpha League title ever.   The Mustangs compiled a 27-3 record, losing only one game all year before the Southern Section final defeat to Calvary Chapel Downey.

Brown was a graduate of Granada Hills High School, and played at the University of San Francisco. Funeral services are pending.

Our condolences to the Kilpatrick students and team members and to Brown's family.
