Spring League
What:   San Diego Super 60 Spring League
When:   Sun., Tues., Wed. starting March 18
Where:   San Diego Mid-City Gym
Who:   Most top players in San Diego

We received the following information from Ollie Goulston, and thought we'd pass it along:

The Rising Stars are pleased to announce that we will once again be hosting the San Diego Super 60 League. This year will also mark the first time we will be holding a separate girls division in addition to the boys division.

The Super 60 League is an invitation only league for the top 60 high school players in San Diego. The league operates twice weekly on Sunday and Tuesday evenings, from March 18th until approximately May 13th. Enclosed please find the list of participants for the 2001 San Diego Super 60 League. As a NCAA certified event, colleges from throughout the United States are permitted to attend the Super 60 League during the open period in the spring. Last year alone, over 30 colleges attended games during our inaugural season. Top Super 60 League players last year included the following players (who are currently scholarship freshman or signed National Letters of Intent this fall): Floyd North (Oregon State), Eric Osmundson (Utah), D.J. Brown (San Francisco), Donyare Mayfield (Cal. State Bakersfield), Jean Marley-Pierre (Coppin State), and Fred Hooks (Humboldt State).

San Diego is often a city whose talent is overlooked. Over the last couple of seasons, we have seen many kids initially overlooked and underexposed go on to be productive players at the Division 1 level. Young men like Ron Johnson (Long Beach State), Wayne Bernard (Davidson), and Roy Morris (San Diego) all drew little to no interest prior to their signings and have since become productive college players. We feel strongly that there are other young men locally who can follow in their footsteps.

Top local boys underclassmen such as Moulaye Niang (Christian), Nate Carter (Horizon), Derek Stockalper (Carlsbad), and Shaun Davis (Lincoln) will be featured in this league as well as top local girls underclassmen like Candice Wiggins (LaJolla Country Day), Charde Houston (San Diego), Jackie Turpin (Santana), and Linda Pace (Francis Parker). There are also several unsigned seniors participating such as Jaris Cole (Bishop’s), Matt Vaughn (Scripps Ranch), Kimberly Martin (Mt. Miguel), and Jessica Mercado (San Diego). Please make sure to mark the San Diego Super 60 League on your calendar of events to attend this spring!

League play begins March 18th with the boys playing on Sundays and Tuesdays, while the girls play generally on Sundays and Wednesdays. Attached are our pre-season dates and times as well as gym directions. Please contact me at (619) 243-1281 or via e-mail at ogoulston@yahoo.com if you are interested in finding out more about the league and to confirm future game dates.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you this spring!

Sincerely,

Ollie Goulston
