FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian announced to the signing of Chris Sandy, a 6-2 guard from Westark Community College in Fort Smith, Ark."Chris a good combo guard who can play either the point or the two position," said head coach Jerry Tarkanian. "I really got deeply involved in recruiting Chris because I really liked the kid so much. He made such an impression on me because of the things that are important to him. He is only concerned about winning, getting his education and helping the ball club win. His attitude reminds me of Larry Johnson. He's that type of person and the kind of player you want on your team for chemistry and attitude."
Sandy, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., where he graduated from New Town High School, was selected the Region 2 Player of the Year and named to the National Junior College Athletic Association second-team All-America squad. He guided Westark to a 30-4 record and fifth place finish in the NJCAA national tournament. He was selected to the NJCAA all-tournament team. Sandy averaged 16 points, six assists and three rebounds last season and was a two-year starter at Westark. He was coached by Doc Sadler.
Sandy is the second recruit signed by the Bulldogs, joining forward Hiram Fuller from Wabash Valley College (Mt. Carmel, Ill.), who signed in November during the early signing period.
