Nike Coaching Clinic In
Las Vegas May 4, 5 & 6--(Apr. 18, 2001)

From time to time we hear from college, high school, and youth coaches, all of whom have heard a thing or two about the Nike Coaches' Clinics.  But not many people really know about them.  So we're here to demystify the process, and get the word out about probably the largest, biggest and most comprehensive coaching clinic, certainly the biggest on the West Coast, and possibly the biggest and best in the country.  So if you aren't going to be in Fort Wayne Indiana for the Spiece Run N Slam (and if you aren't coaching a travel team, or scouting, but instead are a college coach, or a high school coach, then there's no reason for you to be at Spiece), then you should be in Las Vegas.  There will be two separate clinics, one for men's basketball and one for women's.

Who is going to be at the clinics?   A better question is who won't be there.  Here's a partial list of coaches who will be speaking:

Mike Krzyzewski - Duke
Tom Izzo - Michigan State
Lute Olson - Arizona
Kristie Curry - Purdue
Bob Huggins - Cincinnati
Tara Vanderveer - Stanford
Billy Donovan - Florida
Jim Boeheim - Syracuse
Kay Yow -
North Carolina State
Matt Doherty - North Carolina
Gene Keady - Purdue
Marion Washington -
Kansas
Kelvin Sampson - Oklahoma
Jim Foster - Vanderbilt
Quin Snyder - Missouri
Kelvin Sampson - Oklahoma
Ed Janka - Clinic Director

The clinics will be conducted live and on the court with demonstrators to help the coaches show you the best offensive and defensive sets, new and innovative combinations, and just the same old stuff that perhaps you've forgotten all about because your guys just like to run up and down the court and jack stuff up.   Coaches who want a clinic brochure with further information should call "Nike Championship Basketball Clinics" at 503-671-3041 or write to Nike Championship Basketball Clinics at 5645 Woodsmore Drive, Solon, Ohio, 44139-2072.   And if you're planning to attend the clinic in two weeks in Vegas,  there's a preregistration deadline of May 2, 2001, so do it now.   Preferred hotel reserverations can also be booked at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas Hotels (800) 833-3308 (702) 739-4111.

We personally haven't yet attended one of these clinics (and won't this year because we'll be in Indiana at the Spiece following the Rockfish and Double Pump Teams compete there against some of the best national talent), but we know coaches who swear by the stuff they pick up at the clinic.   We've seen the written packet of materials, and if you're a high school coach or just a student of the game, it's worth the trip if only to get the packet of defensive and offensive materials.
