Andre Patterson Signs NLI to Play Basketball at UCLA
Becomes fourth member of freshman class

April 11, 2001

Andre Patterson, a 6-8, 210-pound forward from Los Angeles Washington Prep who in 2000-01 was a Cal-Hi Sports first-team Div. 1 All-State performer, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at UCLA, Bruin men's head coach Steve Lavin announced Wednesday. Patterson will be an incoming Bruin freshman in the fall.

As a senior this season, Patterson averaged 26.8 ppg and 13.0rpg game He was a finalist for the McDonald's All-American game and the co-Los Angeles City Player of the Year. Patterson led Washington Prep to the quarterfinals of the City Tournament. In that game, Fairfax defeated Washington 69-64, with Patterson scoring 33 points.

As a junior, Patterson attended Concordia HS in Ft. Wayne, IN and enrolled at Washington Prep following the 1999-2000 basketball season. His senior preseason honors included -- the No. 2 small forward in the West, No. 9 rated player at the Nike Summer Camp and HoopScoop No. 16 rated player in the U. S.

Patterson selected UCLA over Kentucky and Michigan.

"Andre Patterson is an outstanding player with inside and outside abilities," Lavin said. "He combines quickness and strength, with a strong offensive skill set for a player of his size. Andre is the final piece to our recruiting puzzle. He is the small forward we need, to go along with Cedric, Dijon and Michael. I believe our incoming recruiting class is the best in the country."

The Bruins have now signed four incoming freshmen for the upcoming 2001-02 season. Joining Patterson will be -- 6-7 guard Cedric Bozeman, from Mater Dei HS in Santa Ana; 6-6 guard/forward Dijon Thompson, from Redondo Union HS in Redondo Beach and 6-11 center Michael Fey, from Capital HS in Olympia, WA.

According to HoopScoop founder Clark Francis, a national expert on high school basketball recruiting, "I think this is the No. 2 class in the country. The Bruins will be one of the better teams in college basketball next season, a legitimate Top 10 club."
