Recruiting Event & Tournament
Calendar Updated--(Apr. 22, 2001)
We're continually hearing from people who ask us about what events we think are the best tournaments coming up between now and the end of the summer, where the best places are to go to watch good high school prospects, and where good high school prospects can also be seen by college coaches. We've already got a calendar of events, and our tournament listings, while not updated specifically for 2001, feature many events which are recurring.
However, in order to specifically answer with regard to recruiting, it's really necessary to get a clearer understanding of when certain events will be taking place and whether they will be occurring when Division I & II college coaches can look at players (e.g., evaluate them), when coaches can make "contact" and when they can't (e.g. when during the year they'll have to rely on the scouts under the current NCAA recruiting calendar). So, we've taken the very nice event calendar which was prepared by Clark Francis of the HoopScoop and Dinos Trigonis of Fullcourt Press, and have prepared an overlay of the NCAA recruiting calendar. We have not included every event on the east coast or in the midwest because many of these events, camps and leagues just won't be attended by folks from SoCal. If you want the complete national calendar of events, you can find it at the HoopScoop.
For definitions of the phrases, see the NCAA's "Frequently Asked Questions--Recruiting Terms and Phrases". We've changed the color coding slightly from the HoopScoop Calendar. Important recruiting events featuring top west coast players are set shown in red. The entries below are not at all complete and we will add to them in the next few days in order to more completely list what's happening during the remainder of this spring and summer, and we'll also update thye list to include some of the major & minor local high school tournaments where you might also see college coaches this summer. The stuff below though is pretty good for starters. One other note, we haven't yet begun to fill in the 2002 events. They're still open, but expect to see many of the usual events, such as the Double Pump East Tournament, the Rockfish Spring League, Fullcourt Press events, etc. The one big question mark at this point is what next summer (e.g., summer 2002) will look like. See our note below.

Note: The NCAA 2002 Recruiting Calendar does not delineate any contact periods for summer of 2002 yet. The actual bylaw delineating the recruiting periods for 2002 are set forth in NCAA Bylaw 30.11.1. While the NCAA website declares that April 18-Sepatember 8, 2002 is a "Quiet Period" the actual Bylaw language does not so declare. It is presently silent with regard to the summer of 2002. |
