Calling New Fish:  Rockfish Holding
Open Workouts Saturday--(Apr. 26, 2001)

tinyrockfish.gif (2569 bytes) What:  Rockfish Open Workouts
When: Saturday, April 28, 2001
Where: Hamilton HS
When: 10:00 a.m. -- 2:00 p.m.
Who:  Anyone who wants to workout/tryout

We received an e-mail from Dave Benezra and Mark Mayemura, who run the Rockfish organization, that the Los Angeles Rockfish will be having an open workout this Saturday, April 28, at Hamilton HS from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

This will be mainly for players who have not been in the program, who have expressed an interest in playing with the Rockfish.  Dave and Mark have already been in contact with many players who have expressed interest, but they've now decided that they might as well "open it up," and announce it to the world.   They anticipate that the workout-tryout will be open to players of top ability in the 8th, 9th, 10th, and a few juniors as well.  Anybody else who is interested may also just show up.  And even if you're not interested in "trying out" and don't know anything about the Rockfish (e.g., you are currently playing for another club team that isn't doing anything tomorrow) well, come on out.

The workout will be run by Rockfish coaches David Payne, Kevin Stapleton, and Rodney Robinson. This will probably be the only workout-tryout that Rockfish will have until June (which means that if you want to play with Rockfish during the remainder of the spring, this is your last shot).

Hamilton HS is located at Robertson & National. It can best be accessed off the 10 Fwy. The gym is around the back of the school, directly behind the track field.  Dave and Mark also noted that since they have not actually seen most of the players who they expect to be there (the ones who have called asking to join up) there will be a lot more scrimmaging than would be usual at a Rockfish workout, which is usually more focused on breakdown drills in-between short full-court scrimmaging.

If you have any questions about the Los Angeles Rockfish, just use the "search SoCalHoops" functions and type in "Rockfish" or check out the description in our "SoCal Clubs" links.  They don't have their own website devoted to the program, but we've featured so much stuff here on SoCalHoops over the years that it would be hard not to find something which would be even the slightest bit informative.  And if after all that you're still stumped, you can call Dave and Mark at (818) 783-2244.
