San Diego CIF Section's
All-CIF Awards Announced--(Apr. 2, 2001)
Thought the Southern Section was stingy in handing out the All-CIF accolades? Well, San Diego gives new meaning to the word when it comes to honoring their All-CIF athletes. In San Diego, the awards are actually handed out by the San Diego Hall of Champions Brietbard Foundation, so to say that the San Diego Section is entirely responsible for these awards is probably not a correct statement, and we're not entirely sure who actually gets involved in the process there. In any event, either there just aren't very many players identified in San Diego, or the process has been taken to a new level of exclusivity. Is that a good thing? Well it probably is for the 50 athletes selected (10 per division). And just to put this in some kind of perspective, San Diego overall has only 87 teams in the entire section, which means that some of the enrollment divisions have fewer than 20 teams; contrast that to the Southern Section's more than 500 teams, and some divisions like V-AA and VA which have almost more teams that San Diego has in their entire section, and 10 players per division doesn't actually look so bad.
In any event, here's the press release which was issued last week announcing the San Diego Section's All-CIF awards:
