Torin Beeler Signs NLI With
Big South Conference's Liberty--(Apr. 11, 2001)
Today is the first day of the spring National Letter of Intent (NLI) signing day, and it will run through May so there will be a lot of other news of guys signing at various spots throughout the rest of April and into May, but we have received news of several signings today, first among them Torin Beeler (6'-5" Sr. G/F) from Ocean View HS who has signed a NLI with Liberty University, a member of the Big South Confernece.
Beeler joins four other signees who inked NLI's in the early signing period: El-Gotta Carter (6'-10" Sr. F/C) from Bonner Academy in Durham, N.C., Mats Persson (6'-8" JUCO So. F) from San Diego City College (originally from Jonkopint, Sweden), Agustinas Vitas (6'-11" Sr. C) from Vilnuis High School, in Vilnuis, Lithuania, and Travis Eisentrout (6'-2" Srf. PG) from Berlin Brothers Academy in Berlin, Pa. This past season, Liberty made it to the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament, coming in as a No. 6 seed, and losing to No. 2 seed Winthrop. Liberty finished 13-15 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
We haven't had time to gather up any quotes from Torin, nor do we have time right now to call Liberty Head Coach Mel Hankenson, but assistant coach Ty Nichols informed us that Liberty received the signed NLI this morning. Torin played with the Pump N Run teams for several years, was an ABCD attendee last year and led Ocean View High School to the Division IIA finals a year ago, losing to Artesia, and this year to the semifinals, losing to Mayfair, which ultimately lost to Redondo. He's also a tremendous high-jumper, and we wouldn't be surprised if he also decides to compete in track and field in the spring at Liberty.
