Belmont Shore To Play At
The Gibbons Tourney--(May 21, 2001)

While the Pump N Run and Rockfish teams are headed to Fresno for Memorial Day's "Mats' Madness Tournament" (formerly known as the adidas Hoop Summit), Belmont Shore will make its yearly trek to North Carolina for the annual Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions which will be held from May 25-27 in Raliegh/Durham/Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  The tournament uses different facilities, and is played in a number of locations, including NC State and Duke University.

Dinos sent us a message tonight about the team he's taking and the tournament   Here's the message:

Belmont Shore will make its 6th straight trip to the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions being held on May 25-27 in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel
Hill, North Carolina.

After posting an impressive 16-6 record (72%) in the TOC 17 & under division since 1998 (including reaching the national championship playoff
Final 4 in 1998), Belmont Shore (loaded with several of Southern California's top sophomores (Class of 2003) will attempt to capture the TOC's 16 & under crown this year. Past Belmont Shore TOC all-tournament selections include Baron Davis (Charlotte Hornets), Tony Bland (Syracuse/San Diego State), Casey Jacobsen (Stanford), Travon Bryant (Missouri), Rick Rickert (Minnesota) and Evan Burns (Los Angeles Fairfax HS).

This year's TOC squad (which lost in OT in the championship game (17 & under) to the Kentucky Elite All-Stars at the Kingwood TX Hoops Classic in
April) includes:

Harrison Schaen 6'8" So. Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA)
Trevor Ariza 6'8" So. Westchester (Los Angeles CA)
Jamaal Walls 6'7" So. Preop School TBA
Marcedes Lewis 6'7" Jr. Poly (Long Beach CA)
Tony Melum 6'6" Jr. Newport Harbor (Newport Beach CA)
Wesley Washington 6'3" So. Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA)

Patrick Haddan 6'1" Jr. Woodbridge (Irvine CA)
Carlos Rivers 5'10" Jr. Poly (Long Beach CA)

Belmont Shore's TOC pool play schedule includes games Friday night May 25th at 7:00 p.m. vs. Rhode Island Breakers @ NC State's Carmichael Gym
(Court #9) and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday vs. Atlanta Celtics @ Dean Smith Center (Court #1) and at 7:50 p.m. Saturday vs. Georgia Hawks @ Duke's Wilson Rec. Ctr (Court #2).
