Pepperdine Signs LACC's Jimmy
Miggins
To Scholarship--(May 24, 2001)
Jimmy Miggins (6'-6" JUCO So. F) has signed a scholarship agreement with Pepperdine. Miggins attended Arlington HS in Riverside where he played for John Seydel, averaging 28 ppg in his senior year. He was selected MVP of the Mountain View League during that season and was also selected as the game MVP in the Eddie Jones Classic (which later became the Dada Classic). Miggins was originally recruited out of high school by Fresno State and San Jose State. He aattended the latter school for a semester as a Prop 48, and then transferred to Santa Monica City College and finally transferred to LACC which he attended for the past two years. Jimmy was named All-Conference in JC and was a returning starter for the Cubs this season. On Wednesday, Miggins signed a grant-in-aid with Pepperdine. He was also actively recruited by schools such as Eastern Carolina, Idaho, but chose to stay closer to home with Pepperdine instead. And what's not to love? Great coaching staff, about 15 games on television next season, the beach. . .
Miggins will have two more years of NCAA eligibility as a 4-2-4 transfer; he will need to finish his AA degree before enrolling at Pepperdine. He should be a major help for the Waves who lose 4 seniors. Gone are Derrick Anderson (6'-5" Sr. F), Randy Roy (6'-4" Sr. F), Kelvin Gibbs (6'-7" Sr. F) and David Lalazerian (6'-7" Sr. F). And while Brandon Armstrong has thrown his name into the NBA draft, he hasn't signed with an agent and we'd expect him to withdraw by the June deadline. With the signings of Gary Colbert and now Miggins, the Waves still have one more scholarship to give, and are rumored to be looking at several big men.
Lastly, we reported last week that it was unclear whether Gary Colbert had signed an NLI with Pepperdine or would be a walk-on. We've been informed by some pretty reliable sources that Colbert in fact signed an NLI even though the school has yet to issue a press release on the signing.
